Exclamation New member, new problem

Hey, decided to join the site because I come here for all my 06 250r repairs. So after cleaning the carbs and putting them back on as well as changing spark plugs and throwing in some fuel additive with the unleaded gas I put in, my ninja turns on and shoots up to 10-11 rpm, warmed up with choke fully engaged is still 7-8 rpm... idle adjustment knob is also broken off(was still able to turn the cable but had no effect on idle) I am at a loss and am perfectly capable of repairs but I don’t know what the problem is

G'day mate. I'd be looking for vacuum leaks first and if all's good I'd be pulling the carbs again and checking them over.

Hi $wim, it's good to meet you. Being able to set the idle speed will be necessary at some point, even it not now, so you should get that adjustment working and go from there.

I don't know if this applies to the 250 carbs, but with some motorcycles I have, it's possible to get the slides in the wrong way, and in that case the RPM runs away like you're describing. I'm just guessing though. An air leak between a carb and cylinder head, as mentioned above, could also do this. A hung up throttle cable or linkage is another possible cause.

Hi and welcome!

You'll need to fix that idle-adjustment cable. Meanwhile, you can set it by twisting inner wire of cable with needle-nose pliers. Or you can reach in from right side and twist throttle-stop screw end of that inner wire. You'll want to unscrew it or turn anti-clockwise.

THanks for all the help, it was actually a simple vacuum leak from the engine to the carbs. I felt so stupid once I found it, was barely tightened
