Optimal RPM
This may be an uninformed question but what is the best RPM for highway. I realize it should be below redline. I just read people talk about how the Ninja can handle highway speed but didn't know what a good cruising RPM was.

That would depend entirely on the speed you need to travel.
Optimal for what? |

If I travel for several hours nonstop between 60 and 70 mph what is the best RPM range? This is beginning to sound like a math problem

whatever revs your turning in 6th gear is perfect.

I'd do it in 6th gear... that would make the rpm and vibration bearable and assure you'll arrive with your fillings intact.
6th for better fuel economy (and sanity), downshift to 5th if you need more power. |

like anything else, it's a compromise to appeal to the broadest buyer group. the gearing works well for almost everything, but isn't optimal for one's specific needs if it falls outside of Kawasaki's gearing choice. That's the beauty of modding the bike... to make it work even better for one's particular needs.

The standard front sprocket has 14 teeth. Replace it with a 15-teeth one and you will lower the engine RPM by almost 7% at any given speed.

Changing out the front sprocket is really cheap and easy to do as well.
