What do you carry?
So I know that there's a similar thread about what tools are carried, but if you've got a backpack and a little extra room, what do you carry with you?
I've got a backpack, and I'm not too sure what to put in it. So far, I've got water, a tire pressure gauge, a mini first-aid kit, and the service manual for the bike. I've been thinking about packing a rain jacket with me just in case I find myself caught in the rain. I'm definitely not lacking room with the backpack. So, if you've got no books or laptops to carry with you, what else do you put in there for day to day riding? |

Sounds like you have the esentials there. You might want to leave some of that extra room for when you stop to eat and be able to put your jacket & other riding gear.

A clear visor just in case you get caught out at night time (with a tinted visor). A torch perhaps, reflective vest for bad-ass weather.

Extra space is great, since it is always nice to not have to carry your jacket and pants around. But the first thing I would put in it is rain gear. Being wet is no fun. If you are dry, ridding in the rain is actually kinda invigorating. (Key word... "Kinda")

I hate to carry anything. I don't do backpacks. I don't like riding a passenger. I hate to have anything in my pockets also.
I like to be able to move and enjoy the ride. I ride for hours and hardly ever stop. I do carry a cell phone, a credit card, and some money. I put them under my passenger seat in a plastic bag.

my tank bag has everything i listed in the tools thread
and if i take anything else with me its usually in my backpack. but as far as that goes i typically reserve my backback for gym clothes only. every once in a blue moon i'll strap on my laptop backpack and take my laptop some place but usually if i need to bring a computer with me i'll just take the car. |

depending on the ride I try not not bring a backpack, its so much better to ride without having that extra weight on the back. I have a tank bag though in case I need to carry water or jacket liner. If I do use a backpack it would be for a short commute not for canyons.

I used to ride with a backpack but it made my back hurt and was not as easy to move around on the bike.

I have a Targa backpack. It has a back flap for a laptop, I don't ride with my laptop (though that might solve the library problem... long story see ride reports and Tag). Instead I usually put a camelback blader in there for water while riding. The bottom front has my Nikon D40 in it. The top part usually has.. wallet, cellphone, snack, asprin, chapstick, first aid kit, glasses (with contact case incase I need to change them out). My tools (gage etc) and what naught are under my seat.

Use the cycle guys hideaway fast pack on the pillion seat. I'd hate to think of the injuries with a loaded backpack on. Fast pack is there anytime and doesnt interfere with riding. Carries scrubs and sneakers, or small grocery or take out items. Under seat... tire gauge, disc and throttle locks, insurance and medical info. Cell phone/wallet in jacket pocket. Bluetooth access at all times in helmet scala Q2 system.

I'm really surprised no one carries a gun. I guess you guys aren't real bikers (or is that bikees). Maybe no one wants to admit it.

when i travel with a gun i always take the car. i think i might look a little too "mad maxx" if i went driving down the road with a double barrel shotgun, .22 rifle, or a Heckler and Koch MP5 on my 250
the only gun i could really carry is my glock but i wouldn't do that because the only way to do that without carrying it in my gun case would be to wear it in my shoulder holster and the thought of being pulled over freaks me out or crashing while wearing that freaks me out. |

I'll be carrying bear bells and some bear spray after this morning's ride. I stopped at the local nordic ski hill for a short hike and encounter two black bears running down the trail towards me. They took one look at me, turned and ran. I did the same. So much for getting some exercise. I made it back to the bike and headed out.

hhmmm, Springfield xD-M 40, sugar checker, wallet, sometimes my laptop, depends on where I'm going, checkbook, calculator (for balancing checkbook), extra needles + bottle of insulin, of course my phone. It's a shoei helmet bag so I have plenty of room for other stuff such as food if I were to stop
Btw.. if you're still wondering about the insulin and other stuff and didn't catch on (I'm diabetic)

My concern is keeping the insulin bottles cool especially in southern weather. Ice pacs tend to melt quickly. I do hope you are buying yours from Walmart pharmacies. Only 24.00 per bottle the Novolin Reli-On brand (R and NPH). All other pharmacies are selling them for 50.00 per bottle and up. Oh and their box of 100 syringes short needle Reli-On brand 12.00 a box as opposed to the pharmacies BD 24.00 + per box.

i ALWAYS carry a gun when i ride. i carry a taurus .45 on my side, and it's always visible. it do worry about going down and landing on it, but i dont ride too aggressive and im always very careful and aware of other drivers. i live with the worry of crashing on it, but i worry more about the crazy people out there! its like my american express card, i dont leave home without it
