I'm subscribed to every thread I post in
noob question here. how do i set this forum to not automatically subscribe to threads when i start one/reply to one. my mailbox has been filling up quite quickly with e-mail alerts saying that someone has replied to X thread that i have subscribed to.
i didn't see an option for it in the user cp and under the subscriptions option i only seemed to have the ability to delete previous subscriptions but not to stop them from happening again. |

Edit Options (along the left hand side of your screen about mid screen ish...) Messaging and Notification (second box) Second section of that is the Default Thread Subscritption. Edit that

Thx Sunny! Drew - that change will affect all future threads that you post in, but it won't change any exisiting subscribed threads. If you go to the "subscribed threads" link from the quick links menu, you can select all of them with the checkbox at the top and change the options for each existing thread en masse.

I tried "Do not sub", it still did... and still sent e-mails. Now I have it on "No e-mails", but it still subs in the user cp.
Atleast I dont have 400+ e-mails any more. |

Kerry -
Changing that preference to "do not subscribe" goes into effect right away, but it only is changing what your preference is for future threads. Every other thread that you've already subscribed to will still shoot out an email to you. To change the notification options for existing subscribed threads, you need to go to your subscribed threads, select all, and change it to whatever you like. - Alex

go to:
-quick links in the top bar -edit options -scroll to "messaging and notification" -"default thread subscription mode" -adjust settings! I'll admit it took me a little while to figure this out just now. but now I know (and so do you! haha) |

Wouldn't you want to be so that it's easy to find threads where you are having a conversation? For instance, when this thread pops up with a reply it's easier for me to find

I see you point. It's tough on my inbox. Also my iPhone won't shut up
My other half of me is on some "cage" forums too, so it's easier if I can control certain thread subscriptions. For some reason I was looking in the wrong spot in the settings. Thanks again for the help!

There are several different ways to manage them. Subscribing to threads is the first half, notifications for subscriptions is the second half. You can choose to subscribe to threads or not. For ones you are subscribed to, you can choose to get email notifications immediately, once a day, once per week, or never. Some people like to subscribe to threads so they show up in their control panel, but don't have any email notifications. Others like the notifications for all threads. Also - when you change your settings for future threads to subscribe or not, that doesn't change the subscription settings for the older threads; you need to go into that part of the control panel, select all subscribed threads, and choose how you want them to behave.

Shut Off Auto-subscribe
So, when I post anything, i automatically get subscribed to that thread. Is there a way to turn that off, so I don't have to unsubscribe myself from everything I post on?

It's best to have it auto-sub for posts you participate in with email turned off and you can still set it to email updates for a particular forum or thread subscription when you manually add it.

How do I stop email notifications. Everytime I post in some thread I will continue getting emails when others post. I can't find anything in User CP.

just edit your options, play around with them till you get what you want. I have it that I only get notifications for mentions
Make sure you are not auto subscribing to threads, that will flood your inbox like crazy

Help.
I've played around with the different options. When I set it to "do not subscribe", I still get emails When I set it to "no email notifications", I get automatically subscribed AND still get emails! I keep going to the subscribed threads and clicking "unsubscribe" for each thread. Is there a way to NOT auto-subscribe AND get no email notifications??? If not, I don't mind being subscribed as long as I don't get any emails about it. Right now it's set to "no email notifications" but I still get emails about them. Is there also a way to see all recent posts instead of just unread posts?? So even if you've read and/or replied, it still shows up. |

Have you read this thread? (posts #4, #6, and #14)
Check out the "View New Posts" pulldown menu near the top of the page, and it has a number of different options to see posts in addition to just the ones that you haven't seen yet.

Yes I read this entire thread.
I unsubscribed to every thread that autosubscribes me. I still get emails. And I figured out the recent posts thing. View New Posts doesn't do it. I go through Portal Page now. It shows ALL the recent ones, not just new/unread/unanswered/etc. posts. It's fine if there's no option to change it. I'll deal. |

There's nothing you need to deal with, you're missing something in the translation. It will work exactly as you desire. You still have it misconfigured. Read those posts again.
The nav menu is the same across all pages on the site, the View New Post pull-down should be the same as well. The Last Day, Last 2 Day, and most of the rest do not care whether you have seen the thread already or not; they show all.
