I'd say 4,000 is what to expect for a used 300 on the market around now. They're fairly new bikes so the sellers have a bit of leverage. I've seen a few for 3,500 on craigslist browsing but they were a bit higher mileage (think 5-10k miles) Personally I wouldn't part with mine for less than 4,500 but I'm not selling so it's a moot point.

So, you are in NoVa, it is still cold and snowy there, you might be able to scrape one up for around $4500 with that mileage range. Watch Craigslist like a hawk, and also give your number to your Kawasaki dealer. Tell one of the salesmen what you are looking for, and you never know what will pop up.

I still see people asking for $5000 or more on craigslist. I think $4000 in good condition is a fair price, but i wouldn't sell mine for $4000.

I bought mine for 390,000/- rupees and sold it for 310,000/- rupees... But in India bikes hold their value a lot more than in America... It has just about 1000miles on it

For 4000 you could get a used fz6. Better everything with a 600cc r6 engine.

I was offered $3k trade in, and selling outright you could probably buy/sell around $4k assuming it's in good/like new condition..

^ Typically trade in values are around 1000 below the market value since they're trying to make money off of the bike and the easiest way to do that is to "buy" it cheaper. Really I think the biggest markups on bikes in dealerships are the used bikes. I've seen a cbr600rr w/5k miles going for more than a brand new one. To be fair they were doing a "special" on the new one so it was a hair under msrp.

I found a 2006 fz6 with 8970 miles for $3995 about 200 miles away from me. The fz6 is about 80 lbs heavier than the Ninja 300, and gets worse fuel mileage by 10mpg or more. It's rated by Yamaha at 40mpg, which is the same as my car's highway mpg rating. Many users report mid-40s on Fuelly, but that's still not that great. |

A dealer here in MI recently had a '13 300 traded back in (owner upgraded to something bigger) with 4,800 miles on it, still under warranty until June. They were asking $3900 if I remember correctly. There's currently one on CL with 5,600 miles and a Yoshi slipon asking $4300. There's an SE with 3,300 miles and a number of mods (2 Bros. exhaust, undertail, OEM cowl, etc.) for $4875.
Those prices seem fairly reasonable for like-new bikes, but there seem to be a lot of used "beginner" bikes for rather high asking prices. I think people tend to buy brand new toys, possibly with extra fees and options, and then get a loan for it. They outgrow them fairly quickly, but still owe a ton on the loan, and ask for a lot more than the bike is now worth. |
