Yamaha R1 hits 170+ in Cali traffic

Don't think this has been posted before. This is how you are supposed to drive a super sport. Doesn't seem all that crazy except for the lane splitting. No way I would split traffic at those speeds.

Link to original page on YouTube.

he's kind of an asshole. those wheelies were totally unnecessary. also he uses WAY too much clutch. riding on the inside shoulder is really stupid too. i wish he would stop pulling the clutch in just to rev his bike. i hate that ****.

i think you should be required to have a pro status on your race license before you are allowed to buy a 1000cc supersport.

It's not hard to go fast almost anywhere - it's a matter of whether or not it's stupid.

Being an owner of a 1000cc bike, I find this video very... scary, and I'm capable of accelerating like that without wheeling (this is, of course, with electronic aids!).

Ugh. That's on my old daily commute from LA to OC, and I'm pretty sure that this guy, or someone like him, nearly clipped my when he swerved in and out of the carpool lane last spring. I wasn't even in the split position, and he just cut in and almost hit me into the median/construction zone.

Yeah, this story won't end well, eventually.

It's pretty obvious he's very into the video thing, the attention it generates is addicting for some personality types, having people post comments whether good or bad it doesn't matter because it's attention.

It ends up being a self-made psychological trap, though, because he's going to feel he has to keep producing new videos that are even more insane.

Or his parents, or his girl friend or anyone else who might care about him.

I wonder if this guy gets that riding like that on the street almost guarantees an early grave. I know that not everyone has the same level of mental ability to simulate future events in their mind. Perhaps he just can't picture why riding like that is a really bad idea... or maybe he's terminally ill and just doesn't care.

While I was watching I was just waiting for a driver to change lanes and wondering what the hell he would do. I think even the most skilled riders out there would have a hard time dealing with some of the things that can happen at those speeds in that traffic.

No matter what his deal is... he must get one hell of an adrenalin rush from riding like that! I was feeling it just watching!

Im always skeptical of these videos... Just looking at the other traffic when his speedo says 170 it really doesnt seem like he is going THAT fast..... I wonder if it was switched over to kilometers.... 170 km is just under 90 mph, which seems more reasonable based on things he is passing, etc... I call BS on the 170 mph claim...

I will say that from personal experience, the video camera makes it look way less dramatic than in real life. Look at this video for example...

Link to original page on YouTube.

After watching this I believe that I could jump my dirt bike 60ft through the air no problem, when in reality that is no where near true.

Lane splitting is all fine n dandy but but doing it at 120 mph or pulling wheelies while splitting thats just a recipe for disaster, not to mention getting up to 176 Mph on the freeway.. Here in Fl it wouldnt just be a ticket, you're ass would be in jail and they would take your vehicle/motorcycle

I did 186MPH a few Biketoberfests ago on I-4. But just for a few seconds. My friend on his 916 thought his bike was fast and I had to prove to him it was an antique so I walked away from him then slowed to highway speed (80MPH or so).

It is one thing to do that on a empty freeway but if you are going 100mph faster then the lane full of traffic next to you, you would be a dumbass.

That is why I do not own a bike that can do that.

I'm going to post a video of me intentionally robbing a corner store and then intentionally killing everyone in it with a gun. COOL!!

So many upvotes for someone potentially endangering his life as well as as everyone elses, and breaking the law + posting in on Youtube. What a fail

That guy deserves an asshat

I'm pretty sure 170 between lines of traffic is already banned

Banning it from the site would be pointless, unless you own the Internet and can censor everything you don't like from everywhere, then people will see it.

At least here everyone is of the opinion that skilled or not that dude is asking for trouble & the noobs (you included) get a realistic opinion from more experienced riders

If you're talking about banning a user from the forum, that only works if they're actually registered on the site lol. Users post videos made by other people all the time

I feel like the dude in the OP wasn't going fast enough. I mean he spent hard earned money on a 1000cc bike for the speed right? Then he is a pansy and doesn't use it all. What a waste.

I am not interested in censorship...It was a joke, mostly based on how nuts and irresponsible the dude is. I share the same opinion, asking for trouble. My comment was that these types of riders make us all look bad because most drivers will remember the guy that streaked by at 170, wheeling in traffic. Not the average commuter (who they normally don't see anyways).

I am aware that I am new to riding, and do not have a ton of experience.

I completely understand that, I am active on other forums as well. Even if it was that poster, there is no reason to ban someone from a forum for risking their neck. It was a joke based on his actions.

*pitchforks and torches* "ban from the streets...blah blah blah".

I wonder if it was switched over to kilometers.... 170 km is just under 90 mph, which seems more reasonable based on things he is passing, etc... I call BS on the 170 mph claim...
Speed is run off the gearing of the bike so these guys with crazy short stunter gearing can make 120 read 170 real quick. But then is 120 all that much better
