*HELP* Ninja 250 HID Kit
Today I installed HID Headlights in my ninja. I put the high beam in and there was no trouble, but then I put the low beam head light in and sometimes the lights wouldn't turn on and I would get a squeal noise from the ballast almost like a miss fire. Any suggestions on what the problem is and how I could try and fix it?

I would say switch the ballasts around to see if it's the ballast, if that's not the issue, try swapping the bulbs around, if I remember correctly the NewGen uses H7s for both hi and low beam.
It's not uncommon to get a bad ballast. And of course double check all connections.

Plan A, step 1: remove kit from bike
step 2: leave Halogen or go to a bixenon retro. Plan B, step 1: remove kit from high beam Step two: put high beam ballast on low beam side, toss the broken ballast, and keep spare HID bulb for when the first one takes a crap. If you REALLY want to go with Plan B and keep the nasty HID kit and dazzle traffic and ruin your night time distance vision with an overpowered low beam shooting light in all the wrong places, at least take it out of the high beam. You want the high beam to light up full power immediately. This ability is helpful for a couple things like flashing traffic to pass, spotting animals/pedestrians on the side of the road when you think you're not sure you saw something and you want to put your brights on quickly to check. Think about it; how long does your kit take to get a useable amount of light out and up to temp? From my experience with a good kit, a bad kit, and plenty of youtube videos, I'm going to tell you its about 80 seconds to get full color, full power, normal operation point lighting. 80 seconds is a LOONNNGGGG time when you want to light up the side of the road for better visibility when you thought you saw the reflection of light off of a deer that's about to cross the road.... for that, you want either a high beam bulb (halogen, LED, etc) that can light up full power very quickly, or you want a bixenon HID projector that does a full power high beam almost instantly. Also, ebay kits typically suck. At least get components for your HID needs from a reputable company. There's so many good options out there, why use bad ones? |

If you really want HIDs, I'd strongly suggest doing it right and putting in projectors for them.
Here's a great source source for the parts: http://www.bkmoto.com/index.php?rout...&product_id=55 Here's an awesome DIY thread: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=111916 No glare, no spool up time for your high beams, both lights on for low and high beams. In fact, the only downside (besides spending money and time) in my opinion is that you can't put a modulator on an HID light. |
