Would guess you would have to re-jet carb.

Straight pipes probably wouldn't hurt the motor, but it will hurt your ears and your standing with anyone within earshot, and it will hurt performance. If you want louder without hurting performance you'll need a header or aftermarket slipons. I'm just guessing that your 600 was a 4 cylinder, if that's the case the 250 will never sound like that no matter how loud you make it. We run our 250's (3 of them) with Muzzy headers with stock jetting, they run a tiny bit lean in the midrange but are close to spot on at wide open. (these are track bikes)

/moved to pre-gen tech.

It won't sound like a 600 - it will sound like a loud weed-whacker.

The greatest danger to your bike will be someone lighting it on fire because it's so f**king loud.

Seriously... stupid-loud bikes are just plain obnoxious.

If you really believe that you should turn your exhaust outlet forward.

a few things.

1) Protip, probably don't want your address in the location tab
2) to "sound like a 600" will require 2 extra cylinders and roughly 351 cc's of displacement
3) Claiming safety through noise. Ugh. I love the sound of a performance exhaust as much as the next guy. I have a subtle resonated catback on my DD and I used to have a Muzzy on my 250... but those are for my own enjoyment, not any claims of safety. Riding safely and defensively keeps you safe, not the fart coming out the rear of the bike.

Dude there is no way to get a 14,000 rpm motor sound anything near decent.
It is always going to sound like chainsaw. Chainsaws ruined my hearing along with firearms. Your idea will do the same for you. Plus my bet is you will loose HP and or torque. That little stock exhaust system is designed to get just about everything out the engine.

For a decent sound you need a Harley.

It's not so much the RPMs as number of cylinders. Have a listen to this!!!

No matter the bike, no matter the number of cylinders, no matter the exhaust, nothing makes a bike sound better than a rider that knows how to control the throttle enough to make it sing the local song. - csmith

Get a life adouglas. Apples and oranges. Next you will want to compare it a F17 taking off on a short field

What's an F17?

(PS: Yeah, there was one, but never got past the prototype. Lost the competition to the F18.)

I do get your point. But blanket statements like "you'll never get a 14,000 rpm engine to sound good" are equally off-base. Personally I LIKE the sound of screaming, high-rpm engines. You don't. Fair enough.

Why compare a Harley to a high-revving parallel twin in the first place? What's "good" or "bad?" It's in the ear of the listener.

A chainsaw sounds the way it does in large part because it's a single. I happen to think that the RC390 sounds like a chainsaw for that reason. But once you get into different engine configurations the character changes. The Ninjette doesn't sound anything like a chainsaw to me.

Yeah, number of cylinders does make more difference than RPM. Which is why we told the OP that the twins can never sound as smooth or wail like a Supersport 4-cyl at high RPMs. Ninjette at 14000rpms will always sound rougher than 600cc 4-cyl at same RPM. It's just physics.

I played golf at Pt. Mugu all the time when I lived in Santa Barbara.. right next to runway where F14s were taking off. They even gave us golf balls with F14s on them!
