Movin on up

So I got a dream bike and that is a 954RR. I currently have a 09 250R and have a chance to get my dream bike. I am selling my bike for $2,500 and and plan on putting $500 towards a 954RR I found for sale for $3,000. Do you think the cc jump will be too significant for a rider who is concervative and has rode for about a year. I have rode a 600RR but no liter bikes.

The 954RR is a collector's bike. Ride it like that and you'll be fine.

So should I just jump in and kill myself or work my way into and gradually build up confidence and ability. I never said I don't like to go fast I just have a hard time doing so with the 250. Like I said "dream bike" and everyone should accomplish a dream in life.

If you ride the 954 like you ride the 250 you're going to get hurt. If you ride the 954 with some sense and you have a decent amount of experience riding, you're a lot less likely to hurt yourself.

Since my CBR is giving me problems, I'm spending more time on the 500. I find when I spend a lot of time on the 500 then hop on the CBR I can forget how powerful it is and end up riding it a bit harder than I should, just takes a little mental adjustment. I've yet to ride a 1000cc but even my 600 can pull power wheelies and lift up the front end in first gear.

One of the reasons I want one so bad, but this goes back to 02 when I got out of high school and wanted a bike and the 954RR was love at first site. I finally got into riding last year and have built up some confidence and some ability with the 250 and 600 that I think it is just time. I hate the way these bikes are abused, go to YouTube and every other video is a wheelie video or burn out or watch how high this thing can rev and how loud it is. That will not be me when I get my 954.

In all honesty I don't ride the 250 like a mad man. I am a fairly conservative rider, but with that said have I got the 250 past 100 YES, have I attempted to do wheelies YES, can the 250 do power wheelies NO (clutch wheelies some what.) I also do those when traffic is light on the highway and on my street with full gear on. I know what the 954 is capable off and I will be very safe and slowly build confidence.

You won't ride the 954 like the 250 simply because as soon as you attempt to consider to think about riding it like the 250 you'll scare yourself and go back to low rpm lugging it. Hard to say wether you'll be any faster on the 954 then the 250 but that depend on you and the roads you ride.

But it will be nice to pull up to a regroup point of your group ride and take pride in showing off your ride.

how many mph can you go in 1st gear before you have to shift up on the F4i?

Like I said I don't really ride my 250 like I stole it. I use it as a commuter and really just around my area and some back roads. I am not really into racing and I probably will not go much faster with the 954 I will just be able to get up to speed faster like when riding on the highway (I am not talking 35-45mph) I can do that with ease now. I just feel like it is time to move on and put money into a bike I will keep forever instead of a bike I know I will get rid of sooner than later.

Sounds like you're ready for it then.

Part of what I meant about riding the 954 like the 250 wasn't necessarily beating on it and redlining all the time, just general riding. I can grab a handful of throttle on my 500 and get a modest amount of thrust, I grab that same handful on my CBR and depending on the gear I'm in I'm going "WEEEEE Illegal speeds!" and everyone around me can hear it as the engine snarls up into the powerband. The 954 will be A LOT more powerful and much more responsive so just general riding habits you have from the 250 aren't going to suffice very well on a bike with what, like 7-8 times the power? It's just going to take a mental adjust to get used to only ever needing a few % throttle a few thousand rpms.

Pfff, liter bikes. Those things aren't that fast, you'll be fine.

Right just jump on and hammer it down... Don't forget to hang the f**k and hope all goes well.

It's gonna be a HUGE difference in power, and the 954 will make much more power down lowthan even a 600 supersport.
I rode a Ducati M750 for a few years as my daily ride, and still almost killed myself my first week with the fz1.

Oh and yeah Jiggles your ninjette may be faster than mine, but even my wifey's daily rider will eat your ninjette for breakfast...
Someday I'll get the ninjette running.
Oh and I would totally rock a ninja 300 at the track...

Well I am out, I got my 954RR today and noticed a slight difference in power . I sold my rebuilt salvage 09 250R with 10,282 miles for $2,500 and got a 02 954RR with 10,162 miles and a clear title for "drumroll here" $2,300 . I think the guy got into something with someone and owes them some money and was forced to sell the bike. I am very happy with the purchase and I already started on my appearance mods. The body panels are already off the bike and going to the body shop for some Gun Metal Gray base/clear. I got proton flush mounts, gixxer signal mirrors, integrated taillight, solo seat cowl, hotbodies undertail, d3 grips, d3 bar ends, asv levers, and some carbon stuff on the way. Plus the huge d&d pipe is being cut down 8" and then powdercoated flat black. Here is a pic for anyone who cares:

P.S. the stupid hindle sticker is already gone.

I'm crying right now for two reasons;

1. THAT'S SO MUCH BETTER OF A PRICE THAN I PAID FOR MY WAY WORSE CONDITION F4I SCREW YOU

2. You're ruining that poor OEM beauty of a paint job?! Unless it's really rough and the pics don't tell lol.

Welcome to Team Red, things are nice here.

954RRs are gorgeous, I've always loved them. I find the F4i better looking but hey I'm a little biased. I'd even settle for a 929! Enjoy the power but be smart with it, it's rreeeaaallllyyyy easy to get carried away. And when they sound good while doing it it makes it even harder to resist.
