Here's the video from the observatory riding down the hill. As usual make sure to mute or turn down your audio before viewing...my camera's still making the annoying vibrating noise. I'm slow...

That looks like a fun road.

Is it just me or should you have downshifted for the tight switchbacks (ex 3:24)? Which gear were you in? It sounded like you were really low in the RPM range.

Good question, and thanks for asking it. I'm new and I love when people point out possible teachable moments from my videos.

I think I was in 2nd. Later down the hill I actually started thinking about what gear I was in and it was typically 2nd, upshifting to 3rd for the quicker parts then usually going back to 2nd fairly quickly. I wasn't sure about downshifting to 1st as I was braking for the corner entry, and I wasn't in any hurry, so I figured 2nd would be fine, but I'm a newbie so I don't know. Any opinions from the peanut gallery?

Where have you been?

Your new nickname for the next rally is "The Absent Minded Professor"

Hope to see you at the next one!

If you're free this morning I'm going to be leaving Pleasanton in an hour or two. Since I'm by myself I was thinking of just hitting the freeway until I get to Gilroy, but if you want to come along for a ride we could hit up Mines Rd to the observatory and Mt Hamilton Rd on my way south.

Sam, I didn't even know you were Tatertotattack until just now, or that you had never done a group ride before, lol.

I'm glad you made it without going into the creek there. That could have been bad. Was the mark on the gravel shoulder in this picture from you? It looks like you were really off in the soft stuff.

Jesse, thanks for joining up and posting the video. Nice to see what the faster guys look like.

Great riding with you all!

Yeah i think that mark was me. Hey, if you don't push yourself you don't get better, or that's how I rationalize it anyway!
