Maybe trading in the 250 tonight...
....the Vento Colt 250 that is. The Colt is my girlfriends bike and she maybe has put 10 miles on it the 2 years she has had it. We took the MSF course together and she did a great job passing the test. Having never worked with a manual clutch before...never even having her own pedal bike before.
The Colt is a good bike but it isn't confidence inspiring for a new rider. She rode the Ninja around and she did great! She can see herself riding back and forth to work next year if she has a Ninja 250. So I traded her. Her 250 for my 250. I will be trading her Colt in for a Ninja 650. Title and insurance will be in her name on the 250. As long as this bike is still there when I get there tonight and if the numbers he gave me are still valid. Have to bring in the Vento and see what numbers he will give us for it. We'll see how it goes. Get rid of the Ninja 250?! Pfffft! If they dont have the 650 still maybe they will have another black Ninja 250...hmmm.

Had to look up a colt 250(images google), I had never heard of one. Seems like your GF got a nice trade up.
Good luck on your new trade in! Gonna have to post pics of your new ride if it works out. |

I agree, I like the sv's with the windscreen and full fairings though...I think the ninja 650 has the ugliest tail section of any bike I ever seen...

Well, it turns out the guy I need to talk to is out for vacation until next week. Next week I will be on vacation. So, if it isn't sold two weeks from now or if I do hear back from them on a rough quote before then this could still work out.
They did have another black 250 but it was already sold. I did take a look at the 650's at the local Suzuki shop...but they just didn't do it for me as far as looks go. I'll go back tomorrow and talkto a salesman. As far as the Colt goes: Here is a pic.

IMHO when I rode a cruiser style bike at my MSF course with the forward positioned foot pegs I've found it harder to maneuver at slow speeds. I found the standard bikes with neutral positioned foot pegs easier to ride at slow speeds when I got a chance to switch over at the course.

Don't let them talk you into the GSX-F (unless you want to be, that is). It's "detuned", but it's still an I-4 and it's not going to have the twin oomph. I'd definitely stick with either the SV or the 650R.

what about the Fz6r here is the 360 degree view
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/pr...619/0/360.aspx It has the hp of a v twin but the balance and weight of an inline 4. I great step up from the 250 IMO and pretty new so not too many are around

I personally like the look of the new 650r. I love the off-set rear shock and that exhaust is pretty cool. I've heard rumors about the set-up of the stock clip-ons(maybe...coulda been something else) being horrible.

I guess one of the reasons that started this was that the dealer is trying to get rid of the models on the floor so they can make room for the 2010's. I have an out the door price on the 650 for $6410. Hard to ignore that price.

I've seen Colt bikes in Venezuela. I'm surpised at how many low displacement motorcycles they have down there. I feel like we get the shaft here in the USA due to a munch of idiots who think that displacement is the only true sign of manhood. I personally like the new Yamaha FZ6R. IT is a sexy bike and it has about the same sport/standard possistion that the ninjette has. When I went to pick up my 250 in the spring I was tempted by the new arrival, but the extra three thousand dollars and the lack of knowing anything about the bike, made me stick to my guns and buy the ninjette I had reserved since last summer.
When I got the 250, I hadn't owned a bike in about five years so I figured I'd get the less expensive 250 and then move up to another 600cc bike after a year. Well the ninjette suprised the hell out of me for the amount of fun it is. I have had more fun on this bike than I ever had on any other motorcycle and I have never had a moment when I felt the bike was controlling me and not the other way arround like I occastionally had with the SV650 I had previously ridden. I'm convinced that I want to keep the 250 indefinately. I still may get a bigger bike in a few years, but the 250 is all I really seem to need. Plus. I think as I have grown up and have a family to take care of and other important things in my life, I have less and less desire to travel at the speed of light. I rode next to a guy in a ZX10R this morning and we were moving at a good clip, but when he decided he wanted to passa group of cars goning only 75MPH in the car-pool lane he wringed the bikes neck and must have moved up to about 120MPH. I found myself not thinking, "Wow that bike is fast." but thinking, "That idiot is gonna kill himself." Large displacement gives too much temptation for a lot of people to resist. Self control are those people who ride Goldwings capable of 125MPH cross country without ever breaking 80MPH. Faster is not always better.

for those of you who like the 650r, then you must like riding in a more upright position.
the 250r sits more sporty; you're lower to the tank when compared that the 650r I test rode a 650r, and honestly, nothing was all that great. only thing I liked is that it's faster and more powerful than the 250r, but then again, many bikes are |

yes kawasaki zzrx600 what ever is a good "street" alternative to the super sport bikes check her out. and like I said the raven black fz6r is amazing.
I think you should go all out and get a CBRR600 with ABS (phoenix white) that bike is stupid sexy and <20 lbs heavier 333 vs 354

Well, I did check out the YZF-R6S while I was getting a quote on the trade in last night and it really is a gorgeous bike. I like the CBR's as well, but I just think those bikes are too much for the street. I will never be able to see its potential unless I go to a track. I think the 250 does an amazing job. I wouldn't even be considering this but my girlfriend has shown a real liking to the Ninja250 and my local dealer just happens to have a great deal on what they have in stock right now.
Honestly, if the 650 does not show roughly the same flickability as the 250 does, next year I just may trade back to a 250. Anyway, paperwork isn't final yet but I would imagine I will be picking up the 650 before the weekend. Unfortunately, I may only have it for a day or so before I go on vacation. So, when I get back I will be able to put a few miles on it and try to get through that break in period.

I really like the 650 personally - I logged about 500 miles on one over the course of a month or two and was really pleased with it. The upright riding position does turn me off a bit but a simple bar swap takes care of that as well. Its a really torquey bike, deceptively quick jaunting around town. It turns decently as well, not 250 flickable but not bad either.

Mm but the 650 is not?.. if you think about it, there's not a big difference in the level of streetability between the new '09 CBR 600RR ABS and the 650R.
Of course the 650R will be more comfortable but they'll both take you from 0-60 in 3.change seconds and they've really beefed up the 600RR midrange to make it more street friendly. Plus, you have ABS on your side with the CBR. I'm seeing the ABS models go for $2-3k below sticker so there are deals to be had. Good luck! Quote:

the ninja 650 weighs more and produces 71 hp the cbrr weighs less and produces 118 hp i think the best next step past the 250 is the yammy fz6r . it has comprible weight to a 250r 500r but still produce <100 hp for ss bikes then entry into the ss world the best bang for your buck is the zx6rr which weights 410 lbs and produces 110 hp

The 2009 600RR is down on power, rated at 98hp @ 13,500 rpm by MotoUSA and Honda lists wet weight at 432 lb with ABS vs. the Kawi's 440 lb. I never said they were equal in streetability, just that they weren't THAT far off. Don't discount the street-safety factor of ABS. |

I got the numbers from honda website. Under the innvations tab you see the 118 hp mark which is consquently the same number of all cbr600s since 07 but the 09 managed to shave 40 lbs off the bike. Are you sure you didn't read 98 whp?? Because that to me sounds about right mabye a little low ( I have no clue about power loses in bikes). As far as the weight it is 410 w/o abs so my bad. But still the cbr has a p/w ratio of .28xxx vs the zx6rr .29xxx. But the zx costs 2g less. Like I said the next logical step up is te fz6r with it's slight weight and power increase unless you like the single combined seat of the 650r or the Uggo paint jobs of the Suzuki lines.

Well, from what I had understood, a parrallel twin was not able to get that close to an inline 4 in torque and horsepower. Well, hey I was told wrong I suppose. If it is 71HP that I will be getting into, it isn't anything that I am not used to anyway. My streetbob has about that but with an extra 200 lbs.
Well, I must say that I certainly have my doubts about what I am doing. It is alot of money to be juggling around when I should be saving up for a house. Monthly loan payments on top of the insurance (615 a year was the cheapest I had found). Plus trading back to a Ninja 250 if it isn't what I want. I guess I will put some miles on after breaking it in and decide. I have not been able to find a place that rents out sport bikes even remoteley in my area. Never seen a demo day or demo bikes. I would have loved to give it a try before dropping this much money down.

I sat on the '09 650R a lot when thinking of replacing my 250. The position felt just as cramped to me. I bought an '08 Yamaha FZ6 and really like it. Freeway riding feels far more secure and it has plenty of power to accelerate even when going 70mph. My top speed, according to GPS, has been 105mph and the bike felt totally secure. Also, rain grooves are not much of an issue due to the much fatter tires. At speed the 250 would feel like I was riding on ice.

The ZX doesn't have ABS.. we're talking about streetability here, right? Being able to stop on a dime without locking your brakes in wet weather and emergency situations (see that minivan pull out?) is also a factor. Again, more to streetability than horsepower to weight ratio. How is a supersport with a higher HP-to-weight ratio a BETTER INTRODUCTION to SS600's? Wouldn't you want the lower powered ones to help "ease" yourself into a SS? Especially ones with less extreme ergonomics (have you sat on a CBR600RR vs. a ZX6R?) and state-of-the-art safety features (C-ABS)? The new Zixxers are kickass, no doubt, but I just don't follow your logic. |
