How to clean a leather jacket?
I just picked up a used alpinestar leather jacket and was wondering how I should clean the inside of the jacket?

I don't know about you, but the inside of my leatehr jacket has a non-removable nylon mesh, and that's mostly what needed the cleaning. I actually took a hose, got the water as hot as I could, and really quickly soaked the nylon and shot water down the sleeves. then I scrubbed it down with paper towels and hung it up to dry. It doesn't seem to have harmed the leater at all, and the jacket definitely smells better now lol.

lol at nick, I did google on how to clean leather jacket, but everyone keeps talking about how to clean the exterior and not the interior mesh lining that is not removable. Thank you Lvr, maybe I will try your method.

Levi, the water isn't gonna make your jacket explode. I have three suits that I use nowadays, multiple jackets and a pile of gloves. I made them all wet when new, to make them fit better. I have washed all of them in mild soap n water and most have been wet in rain. You should be fine.

I was worried since I was washing the inside. I figured it wouldn't have been treated at all and I didn't want it to stiffen or shrink (it's a snug fit already). I've noticed after riding in the rain that my jacket feel kind of stiff and tight. Like you said though, it worked out fine. I didn't use any soap, just hot water. |
