Featured In the February 2024 issue of Roadracing World:

Motorcycle racing is vicious and dangerous, and anyone who tries to make it to the top risks their life every step of the way. And yet one of many things to like about the sport is that some of its greatest exponents really don’t look like they earn their living by charging around racetracks at stupid speeds and carving up anyone who dares get in their way.

Take reigning MotoGP World Champion Pecco Bagnaia. If you saw the Italian walking down the street you’d think he was on his way to college for his next lecture in existential philosophy. No way does he look like a 200-mph axe murderer.

But Jorge Martin—who fought Bagnaia for last year’s title until he crashed out of the last race—really does: Cage-fighter body covered in ink, piercing eyes, and an I-don’t give-a-f–k swagger. There’s no way Martin is on his way to college to do anything! He looks more like he’s about to partake in some gang warfare. Which is basically what he does for a living…

“Interview: Jorge Martin, ‘It’s Better If We Are Enemies,’ ” by MotoGP Editor Mat Oxley

“I guess I have a really killer mentality,” admits 25-year-old Jorge Martin, nicknamed ‘Martinator,’ with good reason. “What I’ve learned over the years in MotoGP is that people here aren’t your friends. I don’t need to be friends with Pecco, Marc [Marquez], [Marco] Bezzecchi or with anyone—I just want to beat them.” MotoGP Editor Mat Oxley goes toe-to-toe with Martin—read the results in the latest issue of Roadracing World!
