Front Brake Pads, change

Hey guys looks like I'm gonna be changing the front brake pads here by the end of the week. Do you guys have any tips when doing this? I have most of the tools, minus one or two to pick up at the hardware store. I'm gonna clean the calipers before pushing on the pistons, but can you push them in by hand?

Thanks for the help guys,

J

You can push them in by hand slowly if you get your grip right and they are clean enough. I've found brake cleaner 100% ineffective, though.

Get a C clamp to push them back in!

Don't squeeze or let anyone squeeze the brake lever once you've taken the caliper off! And yes, you can push the piston in by hand. If it helps, use one of the old brake pads to assist. You can also use the brake pad to protect the piston if you use a c-clamp to push it in.

leed is right. Use the old pad to press the pistons back in. don't use anything that could possibly mar those up, or you'll likely be looking at replacing them later on.
