Right Sprockets?

Hey,
Relatively new to riding and have to ride the bike up from college (FL) to home (OH). i did a 1100 mile trip earlier this year but didnt like the high RPMs so im switching the sprockets. Ive got a million things going on though at the moment and havent had much time for research on which ones to buy. Ive found these two though. Will these work for replacing the stock sprockets without replacing the chain? 15T front sprocket and 43T Rear.

Thanks much!

Sprocket Change

You can go to 15/41 with the stock 106 link chain. If you go to 15/38 you need a 104. I just did 15/41 and it works real fine. Just going to 43 is not really worth the effort. Remember 1 at the front = about 3 at the back.

Sprocket Change Effects

If you want find all the effects of changing sprockets go to "gearingcommander.com" and look up Kawasaki/ZZR/250-YEAR. It will give you all you will ever want to know, and more, about the effects of sprocket changes. Simply put: one tooth at the front lowers the gearing about 7% and 3 at the back by another 7% for a total of about 15%. This drops your revs at 60mph by about 1,100 - which is like having another whole gear above 6th. Of course the gaps between the gears are a bit bigger so it won't accelerate quite so fast but I don't notice it, and it makes 1st quite a bit more useable. I found my gas consumption went from about 70 to 78 ish mpg, but I am under 120# and ride like an old lady.

ended up going with the 43 in the back. probably should have just done the 41, but i was worried about getting up hills without too much effort. im 195#. oh well. i like it. not screaming as loudly down the highway. although, the one time i tried it, i couldnt get it past 11ish thousand rpms in 6th on the highway. not enough power i guess with the sprocket change. at least on flat ground

Right Sprockets

Your 5th is now the same as the stock 6th! Try WOT in 5th and see how it goes, 13,000 rpm should give you about 105.6 mph true, if you can get there.

im not sure whats up with my bike. before the sprocket change, i could only get it to go up to 101 mph indicated, which is even less in true, at redline. what could the problem be?
