Here's why I hate searching on ninjette and prefer google
Even though I know the name of the damn thread I'm looking for, I can't search for it!!!!

I find it works OK if I know some of the words of the title of the thread. I then limit the search to titles, and it's generally pretty accurate. But sometimes I do resort to google as well. There are parts of this site that are not wide open (to search engines or non-logged-in users), so those threads will not show up in a google search; while they will show up on a site search here.

Yea, I at least try with the ninjette search first. Is there a way to sort the thread by relevance rather than by date?
For example, say you search for insurance, the threads that have insurance in the title are at the top of the list (probably what you a searching for) followed by every other thread that any ever said insurance in it

Yes, hit the advanced search link. It gives you a bunch of options on how you would like to sort the results:

Either the search function is using some archaic form of the word relevancy to sort or it works for crap.
I was going to suggest that you make searches default to relevancy sorting but, uh, nvm

It does look a little strange. I get good results when I set it to "from the last year", but when it looks at all threads, the top results are older ones, then a few pages in, it gets to newer ones. I'm not sure what metrics the "relevancy" tag is using, but it's a little quirky.

you don't have to say site:ninjette.org then search, just type ninjette.org: then your search query.
Or just get google chrome, and it cuts out the step of having to go to google. You just type it in the address bar. |

I get what I'm looking for as top 1 or 2 pretty much every time doing my method.
I think both ways do that though. Time to go make some random searches for ninjette threads I know about. |

Necro-bump, as it came up in a search. Google searching is another option under the search menu. Choosing it is the same thing as going to google and adding site:ninjette.org to a search query. It works quite well, but does not have visibility into any of the non-public subforums on the site.
