steering stem nut

was riding this afternoon and noticed that the nut on top of the triple clamp seemed loose. i stopped, twisted it and was able to unscrew it all the way out. pulled it out and screwed it back in, rode the few remaining blocks back home then tightened it with a wrench. is there anything else i need to check? this makes me worried. which bolts should i be checking every so often on the bike? the bike is brand new with less than 150 miles on the odometer. another thing, the bike would make a thumping noise when going over bumps and potholes, kinda like the front forks were bottoming out (the sound was coming from the front). would the loose steering stem nut have anything to do with that? i haven't ridden it much after i tightened the nut so i couldn't tell ya if the sound went away.

take it back to the dealer and have them reinstall/check it. the bike is under warranty. you shouldn't have to deal with it and this can be a major problem if not remedied correctly.

+1 let the dealer check it. The sound could be the bearings/race. The dealer should also have an attachment to properly torque the collar the puts tension on the bearings/race. Then they can retorque the stem.
