[motorcycle.com] - Scorpion EXO-R2000 Launching This Week

Scorpion’s new flagship helmet, the EXO-R2000, worn by top-class racers in MotoGP, is set to make its United States launch over this Thanksgiving holiday. Scorpion even ran a TV campaign promoting its new lid during the Laguna Seca MotoGP round earlier this year.

Starting at $369.95 for solid colors, the EXO-R2000 is a relative bargain in the world of top-shelf helmets. The highlight of the R2000 lies with the shell, as there are four different sizes and six different dual density EPS liner configurations. Thermodynamic Composite Technology (TCT) is Scorpion’s proprietary five-layer blend of fiberglass, Aramid, and organic poly-resin fibers to construct the shell. Scorpion says the benefit is lighter weight while still meeting SNELL and DOT standards.

From there, a new shield and base plate system ratchets the shield against the eye port for a tighter seal, while still maintaining tool-less replacing of shields. Speaking of shields, the R2000 comes with an Everclear fog-free unit with Pinlock inserts. A separate, Pinlock-ready, dark shield is also included. For the racers or serious track riders out there, a flat shield with tear-off posts is also available.

The R2000 features no shortage of ventilation, as six intake and 10 exhaust vents work to keep the rider’s head cool for maximum concentration. The antimicrobial liner system is also removable for easy washing and maintenance. Cheek pads also have an emergency release pull tab to allow medical personnel to facilitate easier helmet removal if needed.

One of the neatest features is the Air Fit liner inflation system. Similar to the Reebok Pump basketball shoes some of you might remember from years ago, using a small pump within the helmet inflates bladders behind the cheek pads for a more customized fit.

Other features include double D-rings for proper helmet cinching, an aero skirt to reduce noise, and a five-year warranty. Learn more about the EXO-R2000, and the rest of the Scorpion lineup, at www.scorpionusa.com.
