Denim and Armour Options?

Okay I have only been riding for two days and I am frying my b@llz off in the heat. The helmet, gloves, boots and leather jacket I can handle, its the overpants that are killing me. So looking for some opinions on changing my gear a bit. I still want protection so here are my thoughts:

Denim Riding Jeans ($100-$150 range)
With these under:
Icon Stryker Knee Armour
Alpinestars Bionic Freeride Shorts
Question, will the Strykers fit with my TCX S-Sport Tour boots?

Is this this a good alternative to my basic over pants I have or should I just suck it up with the heat.

I have those exact knee guards. I wear them with my dainese boots, and I'm around 6'4" so my legs are longer than most. Even then the pads sit above my knee at least 6 inches when I'm riding, so occasionally my arms hit them and it gets annoying. The really need a third strap on them. I tried wearing them under kevlar jeans and the straps rubbed my calves and behind my knee raw in this heat after just 2 days. On top of jeans is okay, but the still move around a little bit unless you make them really tight. I like them though, make me feel better for knee impacts.

Thanks Vergil, gives me a little more to think about. Maybe a higher running pair of socks would help with the rubbing? My calves and shines are lean so I am hoping they actually stay up. Might have to see if any local places carry these.

I use these under my jeans, they stay in place and are a lot cheaper than the Icons. Not really sure why their knee armor is $90 but whateves.

there was a review of kevlar jeans in one of the sport bike magazines that essentially said if you go down at low speeds <30 mph on smooth road normal jeans are fine. Its at higher speeds and on gravel or roads with more debris then the kevlar jeans are helpful

I have these as well and they are really good. Had a lowside at 10mph in the rain and there is a small hole in my jeans but I didn't feel a thing because I had these on underneath. They remained in place and did exactly as I expected.

I got them here:

Think I have settled on the Knox Cross Shorts for hip area protection. They seem a bit bulky but they appear to have a decent amount of armour all around. Any try these yet?

I like the Dainese knee armour but it is hard to find in Canada. I can order from Revzilla but the "duties, taxes and other charges" are up to pay. Will end up paying twice the price of what's advertised on the site once it is all said and done. I may get the Knox Cross light knee guards or those A* ones for now until I can source the Daineses.

Thanks, I'll take a look at them. I have ordered my other stuff for now and it should be in today. Hopefully that will do the trick for now.

I wear the A* shorts that you linked to in your post. They're great!

Kneepads: These are only $14 and they are everything I've needed them to be.

Also, you may want to look into a textile jacket instead of leather...might be cooler.

once you go through a pair of flipflops, just sew them to the inside of your jeans. just make sure you replace them with another pair of comfy thongs

Those kneepads and a pair of double-front Carhartts are what I wear for the hot days.

I got my Knox Shorts and A* Knee and Shin guards. Took them for an hour or two tour around town on the bike and so far so good. Need to play with the knee guards a bit to limit their movement but I know they do move regardless of what I do.

As for the textile jacket, I have one, the Icon Overlord Textile. I am sure it is cooler than my leather but I don't find my leather that bad. I think the white really helps cut down the heat.

I learned about them from a couple other sites, I think webBikeWorld and the other was Canyon Chasers. They are pretty sturdy IMO and a decent compromise as compared to my pair of overpants which made me sweat like crazy- almost felt like wearing a trashbag. The Carhartts weigh double of what a pair of my regular jeans weigh and are very sturdy with triple stitching. I even wasn't able to remove the rivets on them! I was afraid they would maybe scratch my bike, but they haven't. I coated them with clear nail polish just in case though. And they're only $40 a pair. They're a full cut so they're comfy to ride in, and they look like a pair of khakis in the office so you don't need to change when riding to work.

plasti dip the studs with a paint brush, that might work better.
