How many past owners did your Ninja have when you bought it?

I bought mine new... so none. I was nervous about buying a pre-owned 250 as it is a beginner's bike and a lot of beginners either don't know how to ride or don't know how to maintain a bike... for those reasons I didn't want to buy someone else's potential problems

A sales manager just told me $5325.00 OTD for a 2012.

I'm thinking of offering him $4880? This would be MSRP, + the ridiculous sales tax of Chicago (about 9.75%).

1! The lady I bought it from took very good care of it and gave it all its' maintenance at the dealer. I gave it a valve adjustment at 14,700 miles (a little late, but no biggie) and it runs like a top now.

I bought mine with 1400 miles with 1 previous owner. I figured if I dropped it I wouldn't feel AS bad since it wasn't brand new. Heed, if you are new to riding, you might want to take that into consideration. Funny thing is that I bought mine from a Harley dealership. The guy who sold me the bike told me a guy bought a 20k bike the week before and as he was riding away with it he dropped it while still in the parking lot. The dealer was like "oh well you already signed the paperwork so it is your problem now"

Only one, but between the neglect, abuse, wrecks, and general abandonment the 2006 had already had a hard life by the time I got it with 2,042 miles on the clock.

I got mine new for $5100 + discounts off gear.

Ninjas are hot, dealers won't go under the MSRP for them, and then theres tax, thats the amount your at right now. But then there is also registration fees and setup fees. See if you can get the bike for $5325.00 + all the free gear you need

It's almost the end of riding season in Chicago... I'd wait. I got quoted $4100 OTD for a new bike in the Chicago area in the spring.

Ok, I already offered him $4880 cash, OTD, but I'm assuming he's going to decline.

Then, I'll ask for $5325.00 + all the gear...(or at least SOME gear) That would turn out to be better than paying $4880 and then buying my gear separably.

I'm thinking of spending $630-650 on gear (I already have gloves).

Are you saying I should wait for the spring? I'd expect them to be more expensive at that time of year.

I was thinking about buying a '12 in the winter. Perhaps buy myself a nice Christmas gift.

I wanted to get a 2011 or even a 2010 if possible, but there's no 2011's on the floor by me.

My 08 I bought new. My 88 had one owner. But that rider put 139000 miles on the bike. The frame is the only original part. So if I count the owner of the fairings and the engine and the wheels . I would get 4. ;-)

Take your time, he's trying to pressure you into buying it. Are there any other dealers around? Pit dealers against eachother to get the best deal.

Wow brand new bikes cost that much? I guess I got mine cheap because I only paid 3300 OTD for a 2009 with 1400 miles. If you are not in a hurry, wait a couple more months and you will definitely get it cheaper. The longer the dealer has it on the floor the more they will want to get rid of it.

I was got quoted in early May. The dealer down here in Bloomington on the other hand has 3 Ninja 250r I think two 2011s and a 2012 sitting on the show room floor along with a cbr 250, all of those are like $4200 + tax/registration/title anything I think if you pay anything more than 4500 your getting ripped, I wouldn't even try to get "gear discounts" because you can always get those online.

None, mine was new. The used 250's usually have a high resale value. Why buy used when you can add a grand and get it new?

Another reason was the option to finance, and not having to worry about buying a piece of crap and getting stuck with repairs.

Two previous owners. First owner was dude who commuted 6500 miles worth down in LA... Second owner had bike for less than a thousand miles, got a speeding ticket in car and lost license... >.> I got bike early this year with 7200 miles on it, dropped three times, and now it has 17,xxx on it! It was posted on craigslist for 3100, dad negotiated him down to 2800.

I do wish I went used, though, just because I would've saved a couple grand.

Dealer maintained, 1000 mi, original owner kept it a year then upgraded. It was listed for $3500 on their website, they said it was an error but they honored it. A 2009 that was dropped was listed for same price.....

I have 2 pre-gens now, '98 and '00. I'm guessing they've each had at least a handful of owners. Previous owner of the '00 had it for 4 months before moving to a CBR900. I guess since he learned to drive in a straight line on the 250 he was ready. Not a sign of wear beyond the center of the tire, which was dangerously low.
Anyway, I have no problem buying used like I did in the $1k range. I have not run across any problem that has been terribly expensive to repair. I do my own work so that helps. Although, the local dealer quoted me about $250 for a valve adjust, carb cleaning and carb synching. Doesn't seem too bad to me.
And I can live with some amount of scratches and cracks.
Although, I would reconsider buying used if I were looking in the $2500-$3000 range. Would probably cough up the extra dough for new or nearly new.

This made me think... I thought I was the second owner then I remembered the PO said that the first owner bought it new, rode it home then sold it (kinda fishy eh? wonder what happened) so he bought it commuted 6500 miles with it, then sold it to me she's now just under 8 grand and runs amazing...except in the cold, and she needs her 7500 mile check up that I can't afford :/

Mine had one previous owner.

$5k+ for a Ninja? I cannot fathom that. Bad bad bad financial decision in my opinion.

Now, I'm not usually a used car kind of guy, but for my Ninja, I hardly considered buying new. This hobby, and even this bike in particular, is not for everyone. Loads of people get bikes, get scared or bored, then sell. Or in the case of the Ninja 250, sell to get something bigger.

All that means finding low mileage bikes that are only a few years old is pretty easy. (Exceptions of course for folks that live in the middle of no where.)

Last April, I paid $3350 for my 2009 with 600 miles in essentially perfect condition. And I frequently see similar deals on Craigslist. My money is far too precious to me to spend an extra $1k-1.5k on essentially nothing but the "virgin factor."

I bought mine brand new zero miles in Feb (2011 White SE) in the North suburbs of Chicago for a hair under $4800 OTD. I would not have paid so much except I really needed a white ninja.

What's funny to me is that I bought the second 2011 250r they sold I was the first to post it on these forums and I see that the 2012's are already available... I wonder if this is some sort of scheme to get more money out of what is the same bike, just without the sexy white paint job...

I was like that for a bit. I waited a year and a half from my endorsement date before I decided I wanted a motorcycle, I just took the MSF for the hell of it...
