How do you stay in shape?

I've been running with some weight training. Yet with my daily intake, I really need to focus more on cardio. I will be getting a newer bike (most likely used) here soon to lose weight and get in better shape. Since getting married, I've gained 30lbs.

On the good side, I know it isn't bad weight, a lot of it is muscle weight.

How do you go about staying in shape? Poll coming...

If i missed something, feel free to post it as "other"

BTW:
I weight train when I can. Usually 1-2x a week (nothing major).

I try to run 2x a week at least 2 miles, or rollerblade the same distance.
Riding a bike, well I can go for a while.
I have a TaeKwonDo background, so that is my MA workout.
And I do yoga whenever I feel the need.

I've got to give you props for JJ. That takes a great deal of energy. More so than striking based arts like TKD.

I call it my cardio.
I started when I was 37 and since Im not a huge guy, I got paired with a 17 year old kid. Needless to say after my 2nd 3 min session, I was smoked. The damn teenager was laughing at me and nicknamed me Grandpa. (oh to be 17 again) We do six 3 min sessions to finish out our night. Nothing serious. You just practice your submissions on a moving resisting opponent. It took almost a year to get conditioned for those 6 sessions. For a while I was thinking I might be to old and theres no way I was going to make it. I stuck it out and got over the "hump". Now I practice on my poor 18 year old son for fun when he gets cocky.
Im such a mean Daddy, but my son is very respectful.
Ive been thinking about switching to Judo just to learn some good throws.

This post makes me sad I was intending on getting back into shape and completing the P90X program before going back to school but that plan failed... once the sun came along I'd just end up riding instead of working out... and after my long rides I'd be tired and wornout...

so it's just been the last option for me

Used to skateboard all the time. Had a half pipe for my nephews that I wound up skating more than they did. Now most of my time is spent on the motorcycles.

I do spend a few days of the week on the treadmil and throwin some weights around. I do it for the wrong reasons though.
I excercise so I can eat, not really to lose anything extra (even though I have a few pounds I am not happy with).

I used to be in fantastic shape in college, but then I got married, got a job, and had kids. And a few months ago I found myself the heaviest I have ever been in my life - about 230 lbs at 5' 11. I had gotten fat.

after sulking around for a few weeks I made came to the realization that I am not going to drastically change my eating habits so I need to do something to offset them. So about two months ago I started to run again. I used to love to run. At first it was REALLY hard, but I ran 1 mile every day for 6 weeks. Never missed. About 2 weeks ago I started lifting again with a friend. I lift and ride a bike MWF, and I run 2 miles STThS. Sometimes I will miss a day or so but generally I am doing some exercise 4 or 5 days out of the week.

I have not weighed myself recently (no scale) but 3 weeks ago I was at 210. My goal is to get back to 185. Its gonna be a long and tough road as I have not seen much change in the last 2 or 3 weeks. But I am going to stick with it, I was just not happy with myself and the way I looked and I am going to change that for myself.

i started doing a lot of body weight exercises for a while this year. I really liked that better than going to the gym or something. hindu squats, hindu pushups, handstands, etc. .... unfortunetly i've fallen out of the habit of doing it.

i also use to ride mountain bikes a lot.

now i just get my exercise by mowing the lawn and riding at the track. i'm at the track about twice a month and its quite a work out. obviously not getting it as often as i should to be considered working out, but i am getting into better shape somehow...

I used to lift weights quite a bit, including powerlifting for a few years. Recently, I am finding that body weight exercises like this both fit into my life better and give a more balanced workout. Some simple things like push-ups with raised feet and keeping tension on the core muscles can be very intense.

I also walk a lot since the area I live in is beautiful.

I'm an avid weight lifter....actually my style as of late has been approaching that of a non-competitive powerlifter that does "arm" work twice a week, and I typically go to the gym to lift 5 times a week.

I need to lose some weight, though...even though of my weight gain has been muscle. I'm not a fan of being this heavy (220lbs) as my endurance now sucks. I used to do a lot of traditional martial arts when I was younger...with a year of Muay Thai (I left due to injuries). I've been contemplating going back to martial arts training, but I don't have the interest in it that I used to have. Maybe I'll finally learn how to swim or something haha...

What is this "stay in shape" business you speak of?

Actually I go out every evening after dinner and walk about two miles along the ocean near my apartment. Very relaxing ...

I've been going to a personal trainer once a week. Then, I try to run 2 to 3 times and do the bicycle once a week... I think I need to focus more on quality food and watching what I eat

I'm sure the ninjette wouldn't mind if I lost a few pounds :P

Until this year karate and running. This year hit a wall and stopped. Odd thing is I haven't gained a pound but weight distribution makes me look heavier. Guess that's what happens to a 45 year old.

Weight training 3-5 times a week, with the occasional 2-3 days of boxing training. Been slacking off for the last couple of months because school had to close down because of the Swine Flu and I couldn't use the gym, and I had exams so I stopped working out to study.

I need to do some cardio, I'm pretty unfit and would like to lose a little bit of weight. I'm like 75kgs (165 pounds) and 178cms (5 ft 10). I

Prior to breaking my foot (damn dresser). I was running 13 days on and 2 off when training (800m runner in college) mileage was near 75 miles a week. Weight training, abs, and push ups followed 3 days a week never back to back. Stretching everyday. When running no matter how slow you go set a time goal not mileage run 25 mins minimum so you actually make it and aerobic exercise. Short changing it doesn't offer the benefit an extra minutes of running will. I could get scientific on you but I'll keep it at that. Running and swimming are the two best cardio and aerobic exercises for you just stay in good shoes and you won't have any issues.

now, nothing. In the past, used to ride a bicycle several hundred miles a week, around 300, then did the US Army fitness routine for 20 yrs, running, push ups, running, situps, lots of aerobic type exercises, running, stretching before and after we ran, road marches with up to a 45 lb pack, up to 12 miles. Did I mention that we ran quite a bit. Now that I am retired, I don't do anything, ('cept drink beer) although I do miss being in shape.

I do absolutely nothing. I have the metabolism of a hummingbird. I'm 5'10" and weigh 120lbs. Over Thanksgiving break last year I actually lost 2% body fat. Now, I may be skinny as a twig, but I'm by no means in shape. I don't do anything, but that's because I've been wanting a gym buddy and in the middle of a move and bunch of other crap. I've been wanting to put on weight (muscle, haha) but eating won't do it. I could eat until my stomach bursts and I might gain the weight of the consumed mass, until it passes through, hahaha. I have to work out, and when I do I put on muscle pretty quickly, I just don't like going by myself. It's boring.

There's no option for "eat more" so that would be my other

I just keep in shape from working nights shunting (moving trailers in the yard with a shunt truck) and walking around the building and going up and down stairs all day at my day job. Go for a walk on the beach when i have spare time.
