Bolt/Nut Discoloration

Hey All,

This may be nitpicking, but the stem nut(i think that is what it is called) and handle bar bolts look like they are discoloring. I am not sure what it is from. It might be the black coating coming off? Not sure. I am also getting some rusting on the muffler but I plan on swapping that out soon so I am not that concerned about it.

My question is whether I should have the dealer replace these items under warranty? My fear is that in a couple of months they will start rusting. Furthermore, I also fear that after the warranty expires I will still have the same problem. Are there after markets parts that I should look at? I did find this for a stem nut replacement. I have attached some pictures.

OCD kicking again? Lol I don't think those parts will be covered. Seems like the paint is easy to "rub" off. Mine have the same problem also. You may have to replace them out of pocket, and I am sure they have aftermarket bolts for that center nut. I have seen 250's with multi color ones on their bikes, (red, blue, ect)

As long as your nuts aren't blue, everything is good

Normal wear and tear. Highly unlikely to be covered under warranty.

Mine is also a bit beat up there. The paint is thin and comes off pretty easily when my keychain or other keys rubs on it. Best way to solve the issue is probably to use only your Ninjette key, off of a keychain and away from other keys, when you ride.

I was going to rattle-can my triple, but I just never got around to it. I was also thinking, since that is exposed so heavily to the sun, to take it apart and send it out for powder coat. Of course that never happened either. I used touch up paint from my Dark Shadow Gray Mustang GT. It wasn't perfect, but it looked better than seeing scratches.

Can you not get cover caps for those Allen bolts. Previous generations had them. As for the stem bolt, take it out and rattle can it with engine ceramic paint. You may have too many keys rubbing on it.

Everything can be painted. Bolts can be taken out, cleaned and painted black and silver bolts painted with clear. Color rite has paint for the frame. http://www.colorrite.com/product/kaw...black-2179.cfm

Just put this in the ignition

And use this to attach it to your main keyring.

Less scratches on the triple if you do that...

These appear to have been screwed a few times. Maybe a bit of the in and out with the allen key to much? You "could" take them out and spray the heads or just order new one's on the cheap prob.

That will start to rust bad. My suggestion is to replace the exhaust all together. Now you have a very valid reason and justification to the wife (gf or significant other) to do so.
