Good find. That's why I was reluctant to recommend a source. The HID business is growing so fast, the price is dropping very quickly. Your price is about 1/2 of what I paid about 9 months ago.

I figure for that price, if they fail, I could throw them away and just go back to the stock bulb.

Have fun.

Couple items... be sure to aim your headlight after you're done installing, you'll need to come up with some sort of spacer for the H7 setup Kawasaki uses and you can zip tie the ballasts to the framework inside the nose area to avoid having to drill holes into the black console plastic like your linked installation instructions showed.

Take pics when you install... I failed to do that and am constantly getting asked questions about this mod. This is one of the very first mods I made to my bike and was not into doing DIYs at the time.

lol... sorry, I'm not about to disassemble the works to do a DIY. You have it quite backwards.. I do the DIYs as I install the mod.

Figured someone else could do a DIY now that they know they are going to do this mod.

kkim,

I did see your pics on the KF and noticed how you tie wrapped the ballasts.

The "search" function is your friend!

Let's see, so far this week on ebay...jet kit ($42), HID ($59), and exhaust ($58). To be fair, I found the exhaust weeks ago, just was trying to decide on a jet kit.

Yes def do I DIY on the HIDs. Also if you could..the night before you do the install take a picture of the stock headlight light and then do it after so we can all see the wonderful difference!

I guess I don't understand the Difference between the HID kit and a xenon bulb??? Probably a dumb question ha ha but I would like to understand it.

HID kits use Xenon bulbs. The bulbs you linked in your thread were not true Xenon bulbs... more likely bulbs that replicated the color of Xenon bulbs and were nothing more than a Halogen type bulb with special filters and gases inside the bulb.

A true HID kit will use a very high voltage (a ballast, as pictured above) to make the gas in the Xenon bulb glow/arc which gives off the light. The emitted light is much brighter and whiter than halogen bulbs can emit.

Google HID to get a better understanding on how they work.

Instead of making a new thread, thought I'd revive this one.

So my low beam OEM bulb burnt out and now I'm contemplating HIDs. Since it's been at least a year for some of you who've installed HIDs, are you satisfied with them? Considering the low price point of HIDs I'd like to buy a set as well instead of buying replacement bulbs.

What pros and cons have you all run into? Thanks for your time!

Mine has held up well... both high and low beam HIDs installed.

If you don't like riding around with HIDs all the time, you can move your stock highbeam bulb over to your lowbeam position (they are the same type H7 bulb) and install only a HID kit in the highbeam.

I was thinking about doing that actually, I'm more sold on that kind of setup. I assume I can just follow the DIY threads and just stop with one with no extra modding?

yes. the high and low light are two completely separate circuits. just install the HID bulb and ballast into the high light and stop there.

I suggest you purchase a HID kit for a car that has 2 complete lights. That way, you'll have a spare in case the high light ever goes out or you can install the second into the low light position if you find you really like the way the HIDs perform. I recommend a 4300K bulb temp.

remember to properly aim your headlights after you do the install.

What's the difference between a car and a bike "slim" HID kit? Also, where did you get yours from?

as far as I know, with a bike kit you only get 1/2 the amount of parts as a car kit. I've had both the slim ballast kits and the "regular" sized ballast kits and they both do the job the same, only the slim kits a are a bit easier to conceal in the limited space in the front cowl area. BTW, you don't need the 55w kits... the 35W kits put out way more light than you'll need. There have been problems with people popping fuses w/ the 55w kits.

I got a car kit off ebay, for $100 or so, back in 08. today I'd suspect you can pick up the same kit for $50. as with anything on ebay, be very careful and shoot questions out to the seller before you order so you can at least get some feel for their customer service. I figured if the HIDs didn't work, I'd be out about the price of a good set of replacement bulbs, but to date, the HIDs have been working fine.

Seph, DDMtuning is local to us in San Diego (near Walmart/99 Ranch). They sell the H7 kits for $20-25 each and have lifetime warranties as long as you keep your receipt. This means you never have to buy another bulb

Ive been eyeing the DDM kits in 6k color.
Please do post pics of the 4300k color, I was wanting a bit of blue in mine and know those 4300 should be plain bright white.

I"ve got 5k with a 55w kit, the light is bright white, with no blue. on a 55w kit, the colour gets washed out a bit, so if you want a little blue I'd go 5k on a 35w kit and 6k on a 55w. if you want a lot of blue (and still lots of usable light) go 6k and 8k respectively.

For the 55w kits, I highly recommend getting or making a relay harness. just a word of warning, if you buy the DDM relay harness you'll want to replace the fuse holder and the relay socket and relay since they are crap. You'll need to add a second relay anyway so that you have seperate hi/lo beams.

I've used 3000k (yellow)-6000K (slight blue). The 6000K looks hyperwhite most of the time but in the rain or on wet roads you'll be able to tell a difference in light output. Blue doesn't work that well in the wet, scattering light quite a bit. 5000k, doesn't look blue at all except for when you compare it directly to a 4,300k lamp. I didn't notice any scattering from the 5000k lamps.

I would always recommend 4,300-4,500K if you're looking for the brightest, whitest beam and the most output. I've got the 4,500K from DDM on my car with projectors now and the color is nice and white. The further away from that color temp you go, the less usable light you're going to have.

kkim, what wattage are you using? Those things look bright!

I'm using Morimoto 5000k 35W's that are very white with just a tiny hint o' blue. But I'm also using a full projector retrofit so no issues with hotspots or scatter. Link to CThunder-blue's DIY thread and some pics of our setup. My photo of the bulb output at the bottom looks kinda blue, but that's mostly the color bias of my camera's night-time shots (I'm a bit of a photo-newb).
