Ninjette.org Logo Discussion Thread

EDIT: THIS HAS BECOME THE DISCUSSION THREAD, FOR THE ACTUAL CONTEST THREAD GO HERE: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11407

_____________________________________________________________

Logo time!

Do you prefer the new one:

or the original one:

I think the new one is a bit more distinctive, and even has a little asian influence. What do you all think? If you're not already seeing the new logo at the top of the screen, hit shift-refresh on your browser and it will pop right up.

The gray border wasn't ever intended to be there. What browser & version are you using? (IE 6 or earlier, right?) IE 7, Firefox 2 and later all didn't show that gray border; it was transparent.

But that's why I was excited about something I read today about how to make transparent PNG's actually work with IE 6 without a javascript hack. So the new logo has that incorporated into it and should look decent with IE6, as well as the newer browsers. It also has been vectorized (using vectormagic), which shaped the characters a bit from the original font.

EDIT: Ah, I understand what you're saying now. You'd prefer the old font, fixed for older browsers.

Based on what you just said, yes. And I do use IE 6... blame it on work.

Here's the original logo, with the transparency fixed for older browsers:

(and here's the new logo, just so they can be compared side by side)

I think the new one's good, but if you are going for Asian influence, try something even MORE Asian, like English letters that look like they could be Kanji or something. Maybe I'll try something in paint.

How about something more like this? I know it isn't the greatest, but this is what I was thinking of and could come up with in 20 minutes in paint shop.

Egads, I should have spent more time on the logo earlier. I truly wasn't aware there were that many folks coming to ninjette.org still using Internet Explorer 6. Here's a table of specific browser types of ninjette.org users, ranked by frequency:

browsers1.jpg

And here's a summary of that browser data:

browsers2.jpg

If I had known that there were that many people seeing that awful gray box, it would have been higher on the list of to-do's. Sorry about that, folks!

I don't really have the time to put into photoshop ATM, but it would be neat if we could use the cat eyes and incorporate them into the text - it would be preey easy to use them for the org part for example...

Perhaps the "dots" over the i and j could be worked into cat eyes. I'm happy with anything you use. It is so nice to be on a site that the napalm isn't flying around like WWIII every day.

So on the pictures next to the logo - do you have a library you are cycling through or what Alex?

I`m sure that there are some artistic types out there. The logo could be some sort of stylized "EX-250" with "Ninjette.com" underneath as a reference to the forum. Sort of like the AMA Logo with ama.org underneath. Just an idea.

And the first ninjette.org contest is officially launched...

Draft logos and discussions can stay right in this thread, but when you want too officially submit your entry, post it over into the contest thread.

Remember, all discussion, drafts, thoughts, comments, stay in this thread. Only the final one(s) you would like to submit go into the other thread. If you'd like to replace any of the ones that I have put in there already, just let me know.

Alex, I have just recently become computer semi-literate. I use a laptop that is 12 years old and has a Full Race 400Mb CPU and a whopping 128RAM--am not using Nitrous. The computer was fine for navigation programs on the sailboat, but woefully inadequate for this application. Hope you understand. I am using some ancient technology. When I got this computer 12 years ago, I opened it up and coated all the printed circuit boards with Boeshield--an anti corrosive coating. The stuff works great in the salt water environment. This machine could last forever!

I'll post it here, too, so zartan doesn't look like he's talking to himself.

I later added a border.

Which do you guys prefer? The idea was to create a crest like a Harley logo, though a bit more sport bike-inspired

Yup, since the actual contest thread is sticking around for a month, it would get too complicated to figure out what is an actual entry (and what is the final version of that entry), if there were much discussion allowed in that thread.

When I first see this I think someones got two guns pointed at me... and i can't figure out what is in the background... I like the rest of the idea though.
