Model sections forum name

Could the frequently used nicknames be added to the section names?

Pregen - 88-07
Newgen - 08-12
Supergen??? - 13-present

Or maybe

First / Second Generation, 86 - 07
Third Generation, 08 - 12
Fourth Generation 13 - present

At some point, but we first need to come up with what sub-nickname we want to use for the new 300's. I think it will work itself out on its own over time. pre-gen/new-gen made so much sense in 2008. This one is a little harder, going from new-gen to what next...

My vote is pregen/newgen/supergen or just 300s since it is obvious what bike you have if you say 300 but not obvious what bike you have if you say 250

Yes, that's what it says currently on the main forums page. I think the request was to add the nicknames in addition.

I'm fond of "supergen" as well, though I appreciate its corniness.

someone better put a cape on their 300, making it a true supergen (at least for the time it took to take a picture)

But the thing is, it's not the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens. It's going to confuse people that way because there's always gonna be some newb who calls their pregen a 1st gen, and then someone (not naming names here) is going to pop up and say, "WELL TECHNICALLY it's actually a 3rd gen". Or whatever.

Can't because there are 2013+ 250s that are the same "gen" as the 300 and no more different than carb, cali-carb, and FI was in the last gen.

So then we will have 300s, or supergen 300 if you want to get technical, and supergen 250s

Something to do with it being the newgen's successor. "Sucgen?" Jiggles would like that.

Seriously, though: considering the line's long history, the "newgen" will be comparatively "new" for a long time. We can continue calling it "newgen" if we can find something appropriate for the EX250L and EX300A. I don't like "supergen" because there's nothing "super" about the EX250L vs the EX250K newgen.

Pregen. Newgen. Nexgen.

Of course, that'll put us in a real pickle when the EX250M and EX300C/EX300D hit, so we should make a concerted effort to gravitate to 250 E-series, F-series, H-series, J/K-series, L-series, 300 A-series, etc naming conventions.

I don't want my ninjette to look like my 1000. Probably the biggest reason I won't get a 300 is because of the way it looks. I will slap a 300 in my 250 though if I can

Ahem if you will scroll through my post history you will notice that my original distaste in the supergen design goes back to when the 2013 250 was released. I'm simply restating a previous and valid point.

Yes I know you have disliked it the whole time. You're the only one (well, not the only one. You're in n4mwd's company on this one) who is still belligerently knocking the new bike without riding it.

Uhh, the "E" model was sold here too. Basically, it never had and doesn't need a distinguishing nickname. Any EX250-series bike before E wasn't even a "Ninja."

Also, next-gen was batted around a lot in the '90s when it came to game consoles and computer tech. "Nexgen" wasn't (no T).

When I hear "Sparta Generation," I think "oldest generation predating combustion engines by thousands of years."

It's not a generation of 250, but it is a generation of Ninjette, which always refers to Kawasaki's smallest available Ninja in a given market. The European fuel-injected 2008 EX250K was the same generation as the US carb'd 2008 EX250J. We called them both "newgen." The 2013 EX300A is easily as much the same as the new-newgen 2013 EX250L. They don't share the same markets, just like before, but the two TOGETHER need a name every bit as much.

I'm starting to like pregen, newgen, and newgen-A/B/L (or newgen'13). They're both "new" compared to the 25-year-old and 20-year-long generation! Granted, "newgen-A" and "newgen-B" will not get used much because there is no confusion when you say "300," but it doesn't need to be until we get to a new generation 300 and we can already use it to distinguish ABS bikes from non-ABS when we need to. It's not like the terms "pregen" and "newgen" ever completely replaced referencing the exact model, year, or generation by year ("'08+"). When needed, we can slowly start calling the 2008-2012 bikes newgen-J or newgen-K as well, but "newgen" without specifying will still refer to anything newer than 2007 with the assumption that it usually refers to J/K. We can even retcon the '86/'87 E-series as "pregen-E" and the Canadian H-series as "pregen-H."
