left hand controls 95 bike 05 controls
Backstory: so a couple weeks ago I forgot that my clutch safety switch was broken, and hit the starter button while I was putting on my gear. I also forgot I had parked in gear. Needless to say, the bike jumped forward off the kickstands and fell over. The bike fairest very well, but I managed to break my left hand controls, and need to replace that assembly, high beam switch, turn signals, choke lever, etc.
Anyway, there is a Guy local parting out an 05 ninjette, and I have gotten a few parts off of him before. He has the left hand controls and the. Clutch safety switch, and is giving me a good price on them. However, when I checked Kawasaki parts fiche for the 2 years, I noticed the clutch switch is the same but the controls are different part numbers. Anyone know what the difference between the 05 and 95 controls? What do I have to do to use the 05 controls on my 95 ninjette? |

Honestly, the only difference between mine (a '99) and a friends before he got rid of it (an '02 i think) was the symbols on the switches. It's been the same bike for 19 years and the only differences I can think of are turn signals and the redline. I bet you'd be fine to us a left hand control from an '05 on your '95

I will give this warning though. The fuse box of an '05 will NOT work for a '95. I found this out the hard way. As for the controls, not sure if they did any changes to the wiring that might affect it. I would think it should be fine though.

That's my concern exactly. I'm by no means afraid of wiring, but if someone knows exactly what I'd have to do it would save me time, or if there is some strange circuit that makes them not compatible |

The physical wiring should be the same. Go look on ebay at pre and post 05 left hand controls and look at the wiring harnesses. the buttons are all the same, I see no reason why they would change up the entire wiring scheme

I agree with that chris and that's why had gotten an 05 junction box for my 94 last summer. Plugs right in, no changes there and never saw any changes in the wire diagram. But when I turned it on, it was a no go. The headlight didn't come on at all and one of the fuses that wasn't part of the 94's junction box kept popping as soon as the key was turned to on. I guess something changed in the wiring which is why they went from 4 fuses to eventually having 8 fuses.
If the hand controls are compatible (and I don't see why they wouldn't be) let me know cause I need to replace mine since the switch for the horn is bad and it's just easier to replace the whole pod then try to figure out exactly what in the switch is bad. |

Any controls can be made to fit, right?
I think I have Suzuki cruiser controls on my Ninja500:

So I finally got around to tearing into the bike and getting ready to put the new controls on. The plugs are certainly different, as are the wiring colors. Anyone have a listing of which wires perform which function on both the earlier and later bikes?

Well that sucks. Guess if I wish to replace mine I'll have to find one for my year instead of using a newer year pre-gen.

1995 - 2007; F9 - F7F: 26021-1089 JUNCTION BOX You later post that your bike is really 1994 and yes a 2005 won't work in a 1994 because of different wire harness and needing the older junction box. 1988 - 1994; F2 - F8: 26021-1071 JUNCTION BOX (Supercedes 26021-1077) Junction boxes and wire harnesses have part number sticker and checking your VIN should also tell you what model year it is. Some people do get confused when they see the manufacture date marked on the VIN sticker and think they have another model year bike but checking the VIN is more correct if nothing has been changed. I guess it also doesn't help that some people (usually the sellers of the used parts) think they are all the same or call them pre this 2nd 1st or fill in the blank in which part mix ups happen. |

I know of no functional differences and the wiring diagrams show the same functionality of the left handlebar switches and wire color but not totally able to think if the are the complete same pinning but was fairly certain that it was the same 1995-2007. The wire colors are the same in the diagrams and the only possibility that I am aware of is that the pinning might of changed between the years 1994 and 1995 on F model left handlebar switches. I do know that the right handle bar switches does need re-pinning of wires in connector between those years but you said left? I do know there were only changes to that switch to go to push to cancel turn signal and then again later to change from words to symbols. Some, me included, change the left handlebar switch out to one with a hazard function from other bikes. I once slapped on a left handlebar switch from another bike, old ex500, and all it does is blew the fuse if it is not correct but matching the colors and using the wiring diagrams before powering on is best. Is there some chance you were sold an older left handlebar switch or from another different model bike? 2008+ J? I think that has different connectors/wiring. There are two connectors under your tank for that LH switch. You shouldn't need to remove tank to disconnect it but there might be a zip tie? 1995 HOUSING-ASSY-CONTROL,LH 46091-1664 (superseded 46091-1592) EX250-F9 (Ninja 250R) (1995) EX250-F10 (Ninja 250R) (1996) EX250-F11 (Ninja 250R) (1997) EX250-F12 (Ninja 250R) (1998) EX250-F13 (Ninja 250R) (1999) 2005 HOUSING-ASSY-CONTROL,LH 46091-1671 (superseded 46091-1633) EX250-F14 (Ninja 250R) (2000) EX250-F15 (Ninja 250R) (2001) EX250-F16 (Ninja 250R) (2002) EX250-F17 (Ninja 250R) (2003) EX250-F18 (Ninja 250R) (2004) EX250-F19 (Ninja 250R) (2005) EX250-F6F (Ninja 250R) (2006) EX250-F7F (Ninja 250R) (2007) Possible different pinning on the connectors for this old one, re-pin for function using wiring diagram or do as Skippii shows. I think this is the blocky looking switch box. 1994 HOUSING-ASSY-CONTROL,LH 46091-1397 EX250-E1 (Ninja 250R) (1986) EX250-E2 (Ninja 250R) (1987) EX250-F2 (Ninja 250R) (1988) EX250-F3 (Ninja 250R) (1989) EX250-F4 (Ninja 250R) (1990) EX250-F6 (Ninja 250R) (1992) EX250-F7 (Ninja 250R) (1993) EX250-F8 (Ninja 250R) (1994) |
