[visordown.com] - Woman raises 11000 for air ambulance after motorcycle accident

A woman has raised over £11,000 for an air ambulance trust after her friend’s son was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.

Lisa Cadman of Cranleigh, 42, spent the last year raising money for Oliver Thorn, 23, who lost the use of his lower limbs after a crash on the A25 last June.

Cadman said: “I am really close to Oliver’s mum and I just felt so helpless when it happened and just wanted to help out in anyway I could.”

Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance (KSSAA) all arrived at the scene of the crash and flew him to the Royal London Hospital at Whitechapel. After being treated for a broken spinal cord, he was moved to Stoke Mandeville for months of treatment. He is now at a defence medical rehabilitation centre in Leatherhead.

Lisa who runs her own massage company has climbed over the O2 arena in London, become an auctioneer at a charity auction and hosted a massage therapy weekend all in a bid to raise money for the trust.

“It costs the air ambulance £2,000 for each flight they make and I just thought KSSAA had saved his life and I wanted to raise enough money to save another life for people like him. The accident changed Oliver’s life dramatically but he is doing really well and is gaining upper-body strength and has now even got his own car. He is just an inspiration.” Said Lisa.

After receiving the cheque for £11,248.76, Lynne Mitchell, KSSAA director of income generation said:“Quite frankly, she was amazing, as were her group of friends who also got involved and raised a grand total of £11,248.76. We are extremely grateful for Lisa for raising such a phenomenal sum.”
