Quick brake question

I took my first ride with Jeff today and while looking the bike over, noticed that the rotors had slight grooves. I know that with cars, the rotor is supposed to be completely smooth, but didn't know if the same held true for bikes.

yes, sometimes there are grooves. a picture would really help to determine if you have a problem or not.

I will take a picture and post it tomorrow. The grooves are very light, not deep at all.

I think you'll be fine. Post a pic when you have the time to confirm, though.

I took a picture, but I think I'm going to have to let Jeff post it.

It's more a curiosity, and trying to learn bike maintenance, thing than anything else. If it were a car, I'd say the rotors were starting to need to be ground, but I know very little about bikes.

the grooves don't look too bad, but I see quite a bit of wear as to the thickness of the rotor. The minimum thickness is stamped on the rotor somewhere. check to see how close you are to that measurement.

did someone install aftermarket front brake pads on the bike?
