THE cost of a theory test is being reduced by 25% in October, potentially saving learning motorists roughly £100 million over the next nine years.

Theory test prices are being cut down from £31 to £25, with a further £2 drop scheduled for October 2015.

The ministry announced that the reduced prices aren’t only to be had by learner car drivers, but also motorcyclists and other vehicle classes.

Transport Minister, Stephen Hammond, said: ‘We are determined to keep motoring costs down, so we want to make sure theory tests offer the best value for money while continuing to meet rigorous standards.’

Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Chief Executive, Alastair Peoples, explained: ‘By agreeing new contract arrangements for the delivery of theory tests we have secured significant cost savings, and it is right that we pass these savings on to our customers. We want to make sure that we continue to keep pace with customers’ needs and deliver services in a way which is both convenient and cost effective.’
