Carrying a firearm on a motorcycle

For those of you who are licensed to carry a concealed firearm...

is there anything special you do when on your motorcycle, specifically a more "sport" type bike senario. (yes the cruiser and tour style people may have more "secure storage" then the sport/hyper sport types)

Just wondering, may be a problem/situation i might (or might not) have to deal with now... or some time in the future...

I can neither confirm, nor deny...

I have used a hip holster, but got uncomfortable and awkward while riding. Others I know use a shoulder strap harness holster, while some carry a compact and just put in their front pocket. I have a First Gear tank bag that would work perfectly as well, they are about $40.

Or you could just sell the 250, buy a Harley and get this......

I keep mine when riding in my Rapid Transit Recon19 tank bag, then holster once I get to my destination.

It's also on a state by state basis. I know that the people's republic of California is rough. New Commie Jersey is almost just as tough.

By law, we must not deviate from home to our place of business or to shooting range with firearms in vehicle. That means no gas stop. No stopping for coffee or lunch.

Also, all mags must be unloaded. Ammo and firearm cannot be kept together. One must be in the cabin while the other must be in the trunk. In cabin must be in a case. Not on your body.

So technically, if they stop you, they can get you easily if they wanted to. Felony charge right there!

I wouldn't even think about it on a bike. Get accidentally tasered. Or worse....the officer tries to take you and shoots you with a Glock 17 instead....thinking it was his teaser (anyone read the news about that one recently)?

It's pretty rough out here if you want to enjoy the #pewpew life out here. I'm envious of you guys in more friendly 2nd amendment States.

We have it easier here in the Bluegrass state, even if your caught carrying concealed, it a misdemeanor charge.

Now this is a fine example of A.T.G.A.T.T.

The best secure firearm storage on a bike is in a lockable hard case.

A guy tossed out a NIB lockable metal cover for a wildlife camera. I lined it with several layers of foam exercise mat that was also put in the trash. Cut out the outline of my S&W Sigma 40 cal. and a spare clip. Holds the gun well, and vibration is minimal.

Haven't decided whether to bolt it to the floorboard of my truck or run a cable around it and a seat bracket.

So far, the gun has always stayed concealed in an interior jacket pocket. On a ride to Ohio and back last fall, I ran into several Waffle House restaurants that had No Guns Allowed signs on the door. Just turned around and took my business elsewhere. Not all Waffle Houses prohibit guns.

Know what you mean, I just ignore those signs, except on government buildings. I figure there's only one way they would ever find out, in a case like that, the violation would be be least of my worries.

In case of a crash, a gun on your body can do some serious damage. Always in a tank bug.

Love TN new law that states your 'domain' is carried over to vehicle and we do not need C&C's to bring loaded gun in vehicle!

That said on a bike you have to have it in a bag tank/tail/saddle you can not have it in a holster on your person w/o a C&C.

I keep my SCCI 9mm in tail bag w clip in and nothing in chamber (mainly just goin to range, I do not take it on normal rides).

i like the idea of keeping it in a tank bag. i would not want to come off the bike with a loaded weapon on me. even a pocket knife would be a nono in my mind. weird stuff happens when you come off the bike, especially if a car is involved

So you crash and your tank bag spills… gun goes flying…

Wonder what your liability would be if someone walked off with it?

all of the above.

few things are of concern as I see it.

1. firearm becomes visible when state law requires "concealed"

2. AD during a "get off" or "wad up"

3. security and safety of the weapon in the even of an accident where you are transported from the scene ... tank bag, who has that tank bag now... on your person, hospital and EMT guys... who's in control of the weapon and is it secure?

4. on bike secure storage when entering a posted no carry area or GFZ

just wanted to see what you guys do, what you guys think.

Illinois just passed a CCW system January of 2014 so this is the first biking season after that for me.

summer clothes and on the bike... It's easy when you have your Carhartt's and truck to keep things out of sight... Armored jacket provides no "extra space" if you know what I mean.

pocket knives, guns/holsters are all nice and hard to slide on and if properly worn shouldn't be a problem during a crash, especially not with proper protective gear....

My biggest issue is securing the gun to the bike if I have to go into a building which prohibits it - like a federal institution. I carry a cable gun lock under the passenger seat/cowl. Unload the gun, lock it through the barrel to the frame.

What if somebody steals the bike? Well, I'd hope nobody would be stupid enough to steal a vehicle from a law enforcement parking lot... But, then there is insurance (firearm insurance).

WTF you need to carry a gun while you ride?

Don't mean to be a prude, mind you. Got a carry permit, myself, and used to have a FFL... Never felt the need to pack when I'm out enjoying a ride. Maybe the wild west is a more mellow place than where you are.

I ride nearly everywhere I go in the summer, it's my commuter, it's what I take to run errands and the like...

I avoid the cage as much as possible. I'm not so much in need to carry as I ride, it's more about carry where I go.

I don't wear a helmet because I think I'm going to crash.

I don't carry a firearm because I think I'm going some where unsafe (if I think it's unsafe, I don't go there).

I wear a helmet, and I carry a firearm so that I'm prepared for things that I don't expect to happen.

Let us consider in the crash scenario, you crash, you could be unconscious?, in shock? Disoriented? Etc..... Who's to say just because your sidearm is on your person, it's going to be there? Safe? Accounted for? Etc... People do thing they shouldn't if given the opportunity to, like take wallets, and other personal items, firearms included.

Just my 2¢, I trust no one.

Let us NOT forget the Texas cafeteria shooting, how many had firearms they left in there vehicle? And what was the cost to have a law.

Then ask yourself, how the outcome might have been different? Put yourself and loved ones in that cafeteria on that day, and image.

Being from a law enforcement background myself, I'm non- trusting anyway, the only gun control I support is don't give them to idiots, but that's mostly impossible.

My only protection is to worry about what I have control over, I also carry a collapsible baton, for those cases that don't call for deadly force.

I don't normally drink and ride.
I don't normally drink and pack a pistol.
I don't normally ride and pack a pistol.

You guys can do whatever you want to. Just be legal. And safe. And don't get injured or worse because of it.

In that case I'll buy ALL your bikes off you to save you, how about $100.00, and I throw in some bubble wrap too?
