What did you do with your day today?

I finished off my car audio system.

I already installed my Alpine SPS-610C component speakers up front.

Those did wonders with the sound up front. I heard highs I never knew were there. The treble was boosted by leaps and bounds.

Well one of the rear speakers was getting iffy. I decided I needed to replace the stock 5x7's. It was really getting on my nerves, so I picked up a set of Alpine SPE-6090 6x9's.

I know, low end speakers. I didn't want to spend big money, I just wanted some clear sound.

Well after installing them, I realized that I had to move the fade severely to the back to hear them. So I did what I had to do, amplify the sound of course!

Went over to Best Buy and snagged a cheap Polk Audio PA-330 amp.

It is a 300W 2-ch amp. Just what I need to amplify the rear speakers and bring out more lows. Alpine is always a very treble based speaker, so an amp will bring out the great sounds more.

I dropped it in and started tweaking. It will take a while to dial it in, but WOW what a difference! I get some great lows out of the speakers now. Sounds like I have a small woofer in the trunk. hahaha

I did get a little engine noise in the line and realized that I routed the power line DIRECTLY by the signal cables. Yeah, that is a newbie mistake, I should have realized that I was doing it wrong when I was hooking it up. At least I made sure I had a good ground.

Anyway, that is what I did. What did you all do today?

I played on the internet all day while my middle school students watched Indianna Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. We just finished our HUGE end of the year standardized test so I gave them a little treat. 95% of them have never seen it! As a history teacher I love it because I is a history teacher too.

I work 1 day and get 2 days off, so I did the same thing today that I did yesterday: Watched tv, rode my Ninja, stared blankly at the computer screen for hours on end.

Also just got back from eating dinner with my parents.

I DO NOT miss working night shift. The only bonus that made it OK to do was a lack of upper management at the workplace and the night shift premium. It was nice not having people tell you what you need to do even though they didn't realize you already did that 20 minutes ago.

It works for me. I'm able to get stuff done at home during the day. And yes it's quiet. Nice not having the circus around like on day shift. Today I'm staying over on a 16. Then I'll get some fluids for the bike and flush everything on Saturday.

I drew some production drawings, then went and welded some 3/4" plate together with about 15 passes in a V-groove joint. 47 days without a burn, a new record.

Back when I did welding, I'd get burned at least once daily. hahaha

Try doing your root and hotpass in 3/32" then fill out with 1/8". 15 passes leaves a lot of room for slag inclusion.
