Cigarette lighter socket for gadgets

Hi Guys,
Was wondering if anyone had used one like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43976 to power up the gps/phone, whatnot. I've read the thread regarding connecting bare wires, but this seems a little easier. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I've thought about wiring up a cigarette lighter power adapter before but ran into a couple potential cons that I have yet to decide if I like it. 1) riders have reported that the plug slowly vibrates and can pop out (not sure how accurate this is) and 2) anything I plug in would need clearance since the accessory would protrude out a bit. Hence the invention of the BMW style powerlet sockets. Secure and much shorter but also, as you can already guess, way more expensive.

At $10 it could not hurt to try it out and see if it works out for you. More importantly is installing a relay so that the circuit does not draw power when the bike is off. The relay, cheapest, is around $35 but personally is well worth the trouble.

I currently just have a miniUSB coming straight off the battery with a relay in between that feeds to the dash for my GPS.

Goodluck and report back if you decide to try it out.

yes, I installed a marine socket.

I then took it a bit further and made my own cell phone, GPS, and mp3 player charger (since they all take different plugs) with an LM7805 chip, and then modified another USB plug with an additional chip and heatsink to give me 3X the current for any other USB accessories (such as to quickly charge up camera batteries)

Did the same thing on my V-strom.
