I Rooked It!

So, Today I went online and checked out some tutorials on Wheelies, and then was super excited to go Pop some wheelies, well... i got too excited and did not do a pre-ride inspection like i normally do... so, i got all the way across town to the place i was going to do all my wheelies at.. then went to shift gears.and realized.. MY FU***** CLUTCH PEDAL WAS DANGLING! apparently the bolt was loose and fell out... WHILE I WAS IN 1ST! So, i tried for about an hour going up and down that road trying to find the bolt and assembly, but to no avail... i tried to stick something in it to shift up, but noooo! it only wanted to shift to either neutral, or 1st.. (people were pissed at me in traffic =D ) as i could only go 30mph... so the whole way home, my rpm was between 10k-12k (30-35mph) she was not happy with me... she was hot when i got back...

So, my rookie mistake this time, was a major inconvenience... the next one, could get me killed... so the moral of this story, ALWAYS DO A PRE-RIDE INSPECTION!

Ride safe my brethren!

Damn bro..that sUcked! Glad you got yourself and the bike home without incident though, and tnx for the PSA. Wheelies though...I try to stay away from, the likelihood of damaged fork seals, steering bearings and ... possible damage to pride and bike make it not worth the effort. Be safe out there.

Yeah, up until now i have stayed away from them for the fear of damaging the bike (or myself), but i feel like it is time to venture out and explore the limitations of my Ninjette. lol, right after that happened, it started to rain... i was like..."SUPER SUCK!!!"

Try exploring the cornering potential of the ninjette next time instead of exploring the wheelie potential of the bike. You might have some more fun and actually learn something besides the fact that crashing sucks.

Yes.. True! i actually didn't get to wheelie it because i was freaking out about how to get home... and yes, i love the nimbleness of the 250...she can be thrown around with ease and is so responsive that it is ridiculous... but... i still want to wheelie it because of the awesome factor so... yeah!

I never really tried to wheelie but found out how to do it via practicing my emergency launches ...

Launch at 7-8k, I don't drop clutch more a smooth but aggressive release.
Dropping clutch will cause a more uncontrollable wheelie, and being new probably chop the gas and drop the front hard. Releasing smoother allows an easier transition.

Shifting to 2nd at 11-12k usually lifts the wheel back up, haven't gotten to really ride one out yet... Small launch wheelie good enough for me.

Try closing the throttle very quickly when the clutch is pulled in. Slipping the clutch that much is asking to have to replace a worn clutch later on.

The shift from 1st to 2nd is an instant release of clutch. Slipping it won't get the wheel up.
I wouldn't call what I do in 1st slipping it either... I'm just not dropping the clutch completely, like I do for every other gear.
I have slipped it a few times during my practices, and I can feel a difference in the methods.
Hope my description kinda gives a decent idea of it...I'm more of a do'er/show'er than an ex-plainer

Are you keeping the throttle pinned while you shift? It's very possible to accelerate hard to 60 without picking the front wheel up. If you're picking the front wheel up between gears, you're doing it wrong.

See my 0-60 thread for plenty of hard 0-60 runs that don't pick the front wheel up.

Wheelies may look cool to some, but this is not the best bike for trying those.

Please don't treat that noble clutch, transmission and chain so poorly.

If you feel that one wheel is your thing, practice stopies instead,......that alone may save you and your bike one day.

You know what... That is the main consensus i am hearing about wheelies with this bike... I have not yet, and now....nor will i ever on my Ninjette. Thank you guys for making me see the light.

Thank you!

WRONG! I never acctualy did any of the wheelies because i was freaking out trying to figure out how to get home without blowing up my engine lol... and the general agreement has been that they will mess up my bike, so i have decided not to do any.

Well assuming that you wanted to still do some, then yes you would probably burn out your clutch.

I think I read a thread this past month of someone here doing that.:/

So, I guess it's good you have decided otherwise. Go hit some twisties!

Way way better than wheelies.

ive tried to wheelie but im to affraid to have to dump the clutch with the rpms that high. If you want to wheelie just get a dirt bike they are easyer to do them on anyway or get a bike with more power
