Can't Decide on a Chest Protector

Can't decide between the A10 or A6. It looks like the A6 will be less bulky, but in turn will be less protective, as it doesn't even have shoulder pads. The A10 looks more bulky, but has what looks to be better overall protection, and looks to even have kidney protection, while the A6 only covers the back and chest. The A10 is compatible with a neck brace as well. If I get one, not sure if I will (probably will lol). I ride trails...

Have you looked at any brands outside of A*s? Fox and Thor perhaps?

I looked at Thor, but figured that since I can get the A10 for $75, and it's worth much more, I might as well get that...I looked at the Thor Quadrant Protector.

Man you are going crazy on gear! If I had a dirtbike and was just riding trails I would probably just wear helmet, boots, and gloves.

Fieldsheer chest & back protector. Same thing as the Icon vest. I don't ride off road anymore but this thing beats any of the front/roost only protectors I wore back in the day. The back has full armor plates.

I watched a buddy loop a brand new GSXR 600 with only gloves, helmet, & one of these. He was sliding down the road at probably 60 mph on the spine of the vest. He walked away with only elbow rash & the vest hardly looked scraped. I bought one right after seeing that and have loved it since. I don't ride anywhere without it.

You can also wear this vest under any jacket and you can't even feel it there. It might not be exactly what you are looking for off road. I always wear mine on the street or dirt. I even wear it when I ride my moped!

Some people refer to them as "stunter" or "squid" vests but it is a very effective piece of safety gear.

It's only "stunter/squid vests" when you don't wear a jacket. Even then, I think if you have elbow pads as well, then you're definitely not squidly, just a bit under geared haha.



I ended up buying the A10. Just felt like I would spend the extra 15, and save my shoulders.

Mythbusters did a segment on bulletproofing with phone books and i think it only takes 2 until you get to the high powered rifles.

For ducktape, I think it was just an inch. An inch thick ducktape can apparently be used for the backing of a cannon.

Disappointed. I got the chest protector, the A-10, and there is no way it would protect me from a fall...it's so thin. I'm pretty sure even a rock kicked up from roost would crack it. Construction seems flimsy. It looks like if dirt gets stuck on the velcro, it will just fall off. Sizing is really...weird. I'm pretty sure you have to be...heavy set, to fit it properly...I have Alpinestars gloves, they're great. Guess I just was expecting something else. Does anyone that rides dirt hear happen to know if there is a chest protector (or roost deflector, because I guess there aren't many dirt chest protectors) that will fit someone 5'10", 130 pounds, and small chest size...I think 33"?

You're over thinking it. It's just a chest protector. It's main purpose is to protect you from roost and you probably ride alone so it doesn't even matter. Just get whatever matches your helmet, but it's gonna get covered in mud anyway.

Yeah you're not gonna be sliding on asphalt with it, it'll be fine!!! It doesn't hurt too bad to fall down on dirt without gear. So I think you'll be okay.

You don't understand...I was going to get it to protect my spine from falling on rocks...logs...etc...oh well. Who needs a spine anyway I'm going to trade it in for a roost protector.

i went out yesterday and picked up an ICON Stryker vest.. $130
it fits awesome..built with a carbon fiber fabric.. it could protect the side of the ribs better but its perfect for the chest and covers the spine completely..
