Something leaking in exhaust
My old ninja has developed a leak (I think coolant) that forms on the exhaust pipe. The leak is on the right exhaust pipe right behind the radiator. The leak is facing towards the engine and it smokes lightly after a short ride.
Since it is smoking, I assume it isn't oil or gas leaking but what do I know. Any idea what this could be and how do I fix it? |

Hi Len and Welcome to Ninjette!!!
Finding leak is easy: 1. clean off all signs and smears of leak, if you have to take off bodywork leave it off 2. warm up bike and go for short ride 3. come back and leave bike running 4. go look at exhaust pipe and see what's dripping and where. Might help to hold pieces of paper over exhaust to catch leaks and make droplets more visible. Follow drops upwards to find leak. Fixing leak, may be more difficult. |

Welcome Len!
Radiator hoses first. Check your oil, ensure no gas is not getting to the oil. Check your radiator cap, and routing of the res overflow drain tube. I hope it's something simple. Good luck!

Don't forget the o-ring on the hard pipe too.

So it looks like the gasket for the valve cover is failing.
I'm trying to order a new gasket but having difficulties locating it online. Is this part number 11009? While I'm there, I might as well replace the 2 small gaskets around the spark plug holes. Is that part number 11009a? |
