8k miles, ask if the bike has had it's 7,500 mile valve job.
If they say yes, chances are you should buy the bike. (and ask for a receipt of the work)
If they say no, you should seriously look the bike over before you purchase it.
(May not have been maintained properly?)
Use the "no valve job yet?" excuse as a way to lowball them down to $3000 or less.
That's a $300 mechanic job.

8k miles on an 08 isn't much.
Mines a 2010 that I got late 2009. I have 9,500mi on it with a good pause in the middle for crash rebuild. It should have 12,500 or so on it about now.

Used bikes are sketchy business. Be very wary of what you are buying. Bring a qualified mechanic if possible.

The ninja, after taxes and stealership fees is like $5000 I think in California. a low mileage good condition ninja has good resale value.
$3500 might not be uncommon on a nicer bike in LA.
A bent ninja frame alone on ebay goes for $200+

Seems like the price is a little high, but I don't know what the market is like in your area.

Quick craigslist search in my area and I'm finding bikes 08 1700-6200 miles for same price.
"'09 Ninja 250R- 5700 miles. $3400" and these all private sellers, so I'm sure you can haggle them down a bit
Which seems on par to your findings..however, that said you might want to check out other nearby regions too

It has frame sliders, seat cowl not sure yet about the valve job. In Atlanta it seems 08-10 with less than 5k miles seem to go for around 3500-4000 but they sell fast and hard to find in red. Thanks alot for the quick feed back guys

Just look around. I picked mine up two weeks ago, 08 bone stock with 1800 miles for $2400 and threw in a helmet. There are better deals out there

Don't do it. I just picked up my "new" 2010 Ninja from a Phoenix dealership for $3669. I was upset because the odometer read 1.8 miles. You can easily find a better deal on a new bike.

I'd keep shopping. I paid $3300 for my '09 with 17 miles on it. 8k miles is not a problem, though, so don't feel like you have to find a bike with almost no miles on it. If you could get that seller down to $3000 I think it would be a fair deal if the service is all up to date, but if you have a little patience a better deal will come along. Have your cash ready and be ready to jump QUICK when one comes up.

Did everyone forget that $3,500 is MSRP for the 49-state 2008 model when it was new? No one made that point yet. It's exactly what I paid when I lived in Newnan, GA (15 minutes south of you, OP).

I did have to drive to VA to buy it but that had to do with availability and not price (most will gladly take MSRP if paying in cash). An ATL dealership goofed on me and sold my bike to someone else and another had their orders canceled by Kawasaki, so I paid my family in WV a visit and picked up one of the last shipments of 2008 before the $500 MSRP increase.

thanks guys you have made some great points. I have been looking in the states close to me and I am starting to see some 2010's in the $3200- $3600 range. I think im stuck on the red and I prefer the 2010 over the 08-09 because of the black exhaust

Some high heat radiator paint will make the 08-09 stock exhaust look like a 2010. It only takes $4 for a rattle can of paint and a couple hours.

The dealer puts some of that after set-up. It's right there in the docs you sign when buying it. Mine had two miles as well.

mine has 8200 miles on it and it still looks and runs like new. the only real problem with buying a used vehicle is: how was it treated in that 8,000 miles? Mine gets an oil change every 1,500 miles and doesn't get revved to the moon every time it's ridden. So hopefully it wasn't treated like a rental and abused for all of those miles. Try to find out if they have service records, etc. before buying...
