Cool I think I just bought my Ninja...

So it's a beautiful day with warm weather here in Illinois. After my morning class I decided to pick up my wife from work for lunch since it is Valentine's Day. Of course on the way to her work I see someone riding down the street on their black Ninja 250r *jealous*!

So we go for lunch, chat a bit and I drop her off so she can get back to work. I need to go study for my exam tomorrow but I decide that I'll detour to the Kawasaki dealer to see if they have the new 2011's in, and as a matter of fact they do. They have a beautiful white 2011 SE sitting on the showroom floor. So I sit down on it and give my wife a quick call as we both like the new SE (and she's taking her MSF this summer). She tells me to talk to the dealer, get a quote, and talk financing. No big deal since I have cash from school reimbursement but it's good to get an idea of all my options.

Long story short, I put a down payment on the bike and am looking forward to picking it up on Thursday. Pics soon!

EDIT: Ended up getting my bike a day early. Actually, I talked the dealer into free delivery so I didn't have to go and pick it up. The wife loves her, named her Sakura (cherry blossom) and wants to take her away from me ASAP! Anyway, I took her for a spin around the neighborhood and had a blast, only put 2.5 miles on her but I've got to take it easy anyway since it' still the break-in period.

No joke! I'm beyond excited. I can't wait to pick it up on Thursday. I might just push it up to Wednesday to keep my head from exploding.

The wife really loves the Pearl/Ebony SE and she's taking the MSF course this summer. So I really decided to get the white to keep her excited about learning how to ride (really to put her over the top). I know that once I have that thing parked in the garage she'll be chomping at the bit to get her class M so she can ride it.

Then maybe I'll pick up myself a used one...

Anyway, thanks for all the positive comments!

Congratulations! I'm eyeing the white one as well. I'm buying in early April. You mentioned you "got a quote". Is there any negotiating price? I assumed brand new special edition you would pay MSRP but I have been wondering. Anyone else who might know feel free to chime in. Enjoy the bike.

On a NEW bike you pretty much pay MSRP, +dealer fees, +taxes. The only negotiating room on a new bike is really going to be the dealer fees, some places are higher or lower and if you know what other dealers in the area charge for theirs you have a bit of an edge.

The place I bought from lists the bikes for $100 less than MSRP but they make up for it in dealer fees. It can be tricky if you're not aware what you're paying for...If you don't need this years model you can possibly save a bunch buying a new '10 or a used bike.

Anyway, the dealer showed me their inventory. 3 pearl white/ ebony ninjas, 1 sold (they've only had them < 1 week) and I know since I was there asking a week ago. One on the floor and one in the warehouse.

So I was like, how much do you need for a deposit on my bike?

Thanks Warlord! I will have to ask a few dealerships around here about their fees. I had no idea this could change from one place to another. I thought they all just charged tax, tag and title like at car dealerships. Those fees are the same no matter where you go. This sounds like some sort of dealership markup. I will definitely be shopping many dealerships. Thanks for the info and congrats again.

I don't think this is the 2nd thread on that topic if you sort by date, LOL!

Yeah, it is the white craze for sure. If it was any other color I probably could've waited. Everything is sorted for me to pick up my bike tomorrow. It's not crazy to ride if it's a balmy 44 degrees outside, is it?

I commute in 40ish degree weather, so it's plenty ok. Just make sure you have the right gear

40 and above and I will ride. As CThunder-blue noted, just make sure your dressed for it... someone on here posted some wind chill numbers a while back, it only takes minutes to freeze wearing the wrong gear.

I ride all year long, the temps here in the winter usually are between 20-60F.
I guess Im hardcore, at least thats what my harley riding buddies say, but its really not that bad if you plan ahead.

Down to 38F I usually just wear jeans, and my scorpion jacket with the liner, and some gauntlet gloves, joe rocket boots, and a balaclava type thingy around my neck, and my icon helmet.

For temps 38F and below, I put on my snowboarding pants(rain and wind proof) over the jeans, scorpion jacket with liner and a fleece underneath, gauntlet gloves with a liner, balaclava, and the joe rocket boots with some thick wool socks, and my icon helmet. This setup keeps me warm enough for even 100 mile trips at those temps.

I think the coldest temps Ive ridden in is 17F, but the coldest ive ever been was a 40 mile trip up the interstate on a 34F day in a thunderstorm raining cats and dogs, and I was only wearing jeans, and the scorpion jacket, some tennis shoes, icon summer gloves, and a fulmer helmet. I wont lie, I froze my ass off that trip.

Dang, good stuff man. Reminds me of when I was 19 and my roomie and I both had bikes, no cars... rode in the snow, rain, whatever... now I'm fair weather rider. LOL

It sucks having to wait but it'll be worth it. I feel the same way about waiting for my forcefield armor and my shogun frame sliders.

On a side note the the local Kawi dealer said he sold his last White 2011 SE yesterday. That's 3/3 in less than a week! So now the 2010 red/black SE is out on the sales floor! No ETA on getting more white ones he said!

$4149 for the bike (The local dealer lists -$100 on MSRP)
$300 for assembly (uncrating + dealer fees)
$139 for plates and licensing
and almost 400 for taxes.
$0 for the free home delivery!

It was just shy of $4900.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah I love the pics of your bike. It has a strange familiarity to it, LOL.

My wife was just telling me how anxious she is to take it for a spin. Not until after your MSF dear...

Although I am going to throw her on it and take some pics for the girls on bikes thread!

Good stuff, I made my wife take the course last year too. Before the course I started her out on my CRF100 dirt bike, then moved her to my YSR50 then onto the 2008 250 in the parking lot for hours before she took the course. It helped her and she did really well in the course. That has to be hard for her to see that sitting there or watching you ride off on it while she waits...

How tough was it to get the free home delivery? How far are you from the dealership?

I ask because I'd really love to work that out with where ever I get my bike, because since I'm pretty much only going to have the MSF under my belt, I'd really rather not have to drive it home.

Well, maybe after we get the frame sliders on it I'll take her out and show her the basics for the MSF course. I can see how a little hand's on practice could really help, I do want her to have a good experience.

I think Pete's in Baltimore will work with you on delivery... I have purchased a few bikes from their Severna Park store and they are great.

Yeh, my wife just didn't want to be worried about the clutch and all being new... having the sliders should make you a little less worried.

I rode her 250 around today, people stopped me outside of the dealership, subway and redbox asking me about it and what it was. They were all shocked that it was a 250 and only 4k, LOL.

Not tough at all, I live only about 15mins from the dealer but with all the snowmelt, potholes, and salt I didn't wand to ride it home.

It didn't take a whole lot of convincing to get the delivery free because I told them it was my first bike and we had a conversation on how my wife was going through MSF. Of course it came up that I'll need to get myself another one soon enough with two riders and all. Naturally they wanted to make sure we were happy with the service, so how about free delivery?

Glad you're having a good time with it! I'm working all weekend and the weather looks like it going to be crap for the next week. Meh!
