How to Transport a Motorcycle in a Pickup Truck
Hey guys, just got a great quote on my new 2012 ninja and I am gonna have to drive about an hour to get it. Since I don't want to drive the bike my first time home on the highway I was curious as to how I should go about transporting it to the home. I have a Dodge Ram 2008 Hemi and I can fit in the bed with the tail gate open. How do I or how should I strap it down so I dont scratch anything and hold it in place without any questions. Thanks for the help.

Pick up some tie downs to strap the bike down. How long is the bed of your truck? Does the bed have hooks in the 4 corners to attach the tie downs?

I just talked to the dealer and he said to get the handlebar tie down thing that works like a chinese finger trap. He sells them for $30. Yea it has hooks in 6 locations, the four corners and 1 in the middle on each side. They have a loading dock at the dealership to load it to so hope it goes easy.

I have an elevated area above my driveway so I can back the truck up to the hill and pretty much pull it straight off with little to no change in elevation from the back of the truck to the grass above the driveway. That worries me 0%. I am just focused on straping the bad boy to my truck and getting it home safely

You will roll the rubber grips if you use the web style bar tie downs. Use Canyon Dancer hard cuffs with the cups is what you want. 4 corners and it isn't going anywhere. Put the tail gate up.

also if you can get your hands on a wheel chock that helps prevent the front of your pickup bed from getting bent in towards the cab when you cinch down the bike.

Tips for a truck bed, or trailer. I used a U-haul motorcycle trailer and this method. I also added a couple tie downs towards the rear. I used a Canyon Dancer, and some cam-lock tie downs. Good luck!

It's a shame you haven't ridden, as the highway is a great break-in tool, as long as you know the low/no traffic times and have a bud trailing in a cage. I bought two stock (8') 2x6's and 4 metal L brackets (wood screws) so I'd always have ramps. And 2 tie-downs with two wheel chocks have always been enough. Practice taking off and putting on your tailgate so it's not a chore. Best of luck, especially as you bought brand new. Plan ahead, use your buds, you'll be fine. Oh, bring two towels for under tie-downs due to new.
