Ottawa Ontario Group Rides

Hi Guys,

After all the Ontario threads were merged, things got really messy and we lost our Ottawa specific group ride thread.

This is an attempt to re-invigorate the Ottawa (and surrounding area) thread back to it's former glory.

I've noticed several people have their bikes back out, and are enjoying the great weather, so let's get this show on the road!

cant believe this weather! been out alot already and heading out again now!(perks of not being back to work yet) i wont be able to make the evening rides this year as my wife is in kingston during the week, but would love to get out on the weekends. after june i'll be living in kingston as well so maybe a weekend ride along the st lawrence?

hey owen,
just wondering if you noticed that with the yosh pipe it got a lot louder as the bike heated up? i find that after half an hour of riding mine sounds like a harley it gets so loud. any idea of a fix?

I've been out non-stop with this weather... it's incredible! I was actually too hot on the bike today!

I'm definitely in for next week, or possibly even this weekend depending on the weather. I know it's supposed to cool off again, so we might need to pick our day carefully. Make a suggestion, and we'll see if it sticks!

My Yoshi seems to stay at the same volume no matter what the temp is, and I actually confirmed it today when I rode the 250 home from Ottawa Goodtime Centre (it was in winter storage there).

My best guess is that you've got a leak at one of your joints, and as it heats up, the metals expand differently and make the leak worse. Try adjusting the position a little, or maybe use some high temp grease or silicon to try and seal the leak. That's just a guess though, but if it's getting worse as it heats up, that would appear to be the culprit.

The new 600 is a completely absurd bike. I can safely say that I will never have enough talent to use all the capability of that bike.

After having ridden the 250 home tonight, I can confirm a few things I will miss dearly:

1. Having a side mount exhaust that doesn't burn the **** out of your crotch at traffic lights.
2. Having a clutch that doesn't require superhuman strength to activate
3. Having a clutch that doesn't do 99% of its engagement over 2% of its movement.
4. Riding everywhere at WOT
5. Being able to easily shift to neutral at stop lights.
6. The pleasant thumpety-thump sound of a carbureted 2-cylinder engine.

And I traded all the above for:

Having child-like giggles every time the 600 hits 7000 RPM and literally tears your face off for another 8000RPM beyond that. Then you look down at the speedo and realize that you're going faster than you've ever gone in your life and it only took about three seconds.

It's impossible to aptly describe what that feels like, but it's worth every penny, and the burnt crotch!

Got the bike out today finally, felt awesome.

Still a lot of salt/little rocks on the road though... Hope it pours rain soon to wash it off. Was very careful in turns.

Can't wait to see your CBR Owen, that's the bike I want to buy next.

Meet once a week for short rides like last year. Every Wed? Thu? We had some nice rices last year...

On weekends for longer rides... Hope we ride before you leave TJ.

I started a valve job on my bike. I am currently waiting for the parts to come in but hopefully I put it together over the weekend and join you next week !

is there some kind of gasket between the muffler and the exhaust manifold? Maybe you can try replacing that? or selecting a thicker one.

Although it's rainy and dark now, it's supposed to be sunny and 13C this afternoon if anyone is up for a ride! I'll be going out either way, so let me know if anyone is interested!

If there's a clamp of some sort that joins the two, that might need to be tightened or adjusted. If it's just a spring with a slip-on fit, then you'll probably need to consider either a gasket or some high temp sealant like this stuff:

Thanks for passing that on! I actually sold the bike on Friday, but the sale isn't yet formally complete so I'll keep your friend in mind if it falls through.

It actually sold to the first person who saw it when it came out of winter storage! Yet another great asset of the 250 is the strong resale market!

I think around 4:30 at the peak of today's heat would be the best time to go. Probably not a long ride, just an hour or so at most.
