250R dying
My son has been having a problem with his 2009 250R. Within a mile after first starting it, it will start to bog out at speed and then just shut down. He said he needs to sit awhile and then turn the ignition for about 1 minute until it will turn over again. After this it runs ok and does not shut down again. Any ideas why this would happen within 1 mile of starting his ride?

Is he starting it with the choke? How long is he riding with the choke on before he is able to turn it all the way off?
One possibility is that the fuel flow is slowed due to bad venting in the fuel tank (usually a crimped vent line). But if it works after a minute and then doesn't crop up again, sounds more like an issue with warming the bike up at first. The bikes typically don't need much if any warmup time while it is stopped, but if you do ride off right after starting, they often require some choke for the first few minutes to run smoothly until they do warm up a bit.

Yup. Keep the choke fully on while riding away, then smoothly move it all the way to off within a few miles as long as the engine feels fine. Usually that's within a minute or two.
