39 and new rider

Good evening. I'm Tony, and I'm from the DC area. I just bought my first bike at 39. its a 2014 Ninja SE300, and only had 41 miles on it. I bought it on 8/21/2020, and as of 8/25/2020, Ive already put 11 miles on it riding in my subdivision. Very first time on a bike, and i have my BRC on 9/8/2020.

That's nearly 3 miles per day!

Hi Tony, and welcome! I grew up in Bethesda and lived there 40+ years, but got tired of the city growing up around me and moved out in the middle of nowhere in rural NC.

It would probably be a good idea to change the location in your profile to something a little less specific.

Welcome Tony! Great purchase. First suggestion, and yes I’m the party pooper here, but having 32 years of legal street riding gives me some insight into this. Please stop riding around the hood until you’ve completed the BRC. You have a high chance of picking up bad habits like that. Then you’ve got to re-learn technique. Make sure you use the z125/grom for the class. These will be closest to what you’ll be learning on in real life. Once you have the basics, there’s no reason to not practice at home. Take little trips with a destination until you’re comfortable enough to not have to think about bike control before venturing out further. That’s the key to street survival. My 21 y/o daughter took the brc last year and is just now getting enough seat time to take longer trips comfortably, and that’s with me running as a blocker. Take your time and every ride is a learning experience!
