Turn Signal Trouble
I bought a little 250 last week from a private seller, and the guy he bought it from converted it into a street fighter. Great idea, TERRIBLE execution!
Not only did he toss ALL of the body work (some of which I would've loved to have kept, and will cost $60+ to replace), but he never got around to hooking the front turn signals up. Didn't bother hooking anything on the instrument up aside from the speedo, either (which is both inaccurate AND in KPH... I live in the U.S.). If I'm correct in assuming that these are the turn signal hookups... How do I go about doing it? They're also meant to be used as running lights, but I care more about the turn signal part. I don't wanna mess anything up (anymore than it already is), and I don't want to pay out the ass for someone else to do it. ;~; Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. <3 |

The wiring diagram in the manual will be very helpful to you. The wire colors and number of pins in each connector are shown.
The original wires that went to the turn signals, which should still be in the bikes wiring near the front, are: Left signal: black with yellow stripe (ground for signal bulb) and green (power to signal bulb) Right signal: black with yellow stripe (ground for signal bulb) and grey (power to signal bulb) If you don't have a manual, someone recently posted a link to where you can download one. In the meantime I'll be glad to try to help. |

I don't think you'll hurt them if you just try until you find the right ones. My guess is that red is one of the positives, probably signal. No idea if black or black/white is ground, but try them and see. Once you get the signal lighting, the one that's not ground will be the running light.

Okay, red IS signal. Just need to figure out which is the ground. If I knew what wires from the bike itself were for running lights (if it even has then), that'd make things a little easier. |D
I've found multiple three-wire turn signal kits, but not a single one tells you which wire is which. :< |

Just connect the black/yellow to each one and see which one lights the signal LED.
The only running lights I'm aware of on my 250 are the tail light and the instrument lights. Get your turn signals working and we can worry about running lights after that. |

Excellent!
For the running lights, you could connect to the red wire at the ignition switch, but I suspect two little lights right next to the great big, bright headlight won't add much visibility. |

Red/blue is the running light wire. It powers the dash illumination bulbs and the taillight too.
