My bike's been down for a month. I'm slowly descending into a form of madness reserved only for those in the 7th circle of hell.....

Lately I have gotten into the water. A friend gave me a sail boat. So I go out when I can .Just to get away from motors and gasoline. otherwise I mountain bike and work on the garden. |

We don't want to tear up the yard. As a result of that decision, we would need some bumpers of some sort that could resist a 200lb person running into them. There are 2 possible paths. -path 1 could go off a 1 foot ledge into 1 1/2 foot shallow water. A ramp at the end of this could launch people out a few more feet where it is deeper. -path 2 could go down an unused boat launch which is about 12 feet wide. This is the optimal path since it could theoretically be 150 feet long with a bit steeper incline than the shown in the video. I think materials are the major problem. What is the black stuff you are using for support and walkways? is it under the vinyl? |

We used to do something like this in college down a long slope using the large cafeteria trays sliding down in the snow. Hopefully you'd go into the snow bank built up on the bottom of the hill and not into the trees.

I've been post whoring so much.....and at work I'm actually doing work. My god what's happening to me? |

The way it is constructed is as follows.
First a bobcat moves dirt up into a hill. This serves as the launch ramp. Then the bobcat creates two berms on each side of the slide to give a raised edge to make sure water and people stay on the slide. A grader is then used to smooth out the path, and make it level and even. Then used carpet is layed down for the entire path. This serves two purposes. 1. It creates a soft cushion layer under the slide so that rocks, pebbles, etc dont create a hazard. 2. It protects the slide material from the same things. Then on top of the carpet, we lay down 300 ft of RV roofing vinyl. Its 3mm thick vinyl that feels much like a sheet of rubber. The sheets are glued together with rubber/vinyl cement. Then gorilla tape is layed over all the seams to make them smooth. We use a propane torch to gently heat the tape and ensure good adhesion. The rv material is pretty grippy when dry, but is slick when wet. The black that you see is probably the reverse side of the rv roofing material where it has folded over from people disturbing it. The pool at the bottom is just a big waterproof tarp. The slide is located in Ft Valley, GA. It is not open to the public due to liability concerns. Ally, if you are interested in visiting, perhaps we can work something out. |
