squeaking front tire

Any one else out there having problems with a squeaking front tire? I have a 09 250R with only 500 miles on it. My tire just started squeaking about 50 miles ago. When I took it in for the oil change I had them take a look at it and they either didn't ride it long enough to hear it squeak or they didn't find a problem. They are going to take another look at it next week when I get the frame sliders installed. Also, I've ordered a new pink helmet to go with my pink riding jacket. It should be here next week too.

Hi Amanda -

Check out this thread, which has some other links within it as well. Likely culprits are either the speedo gear down on the left side of your front wheel (just squirt some WD-40 on it), or less likely, your axle may be overtightened and it could have affected the wheel bearings. Good luck!

WD40 fixed that problem on mine. Just squirt a little in on the side where the speedo connects. No more embarassing squeak.

I could speed the bot up, or I could just forward-date your posts a few hours retroactively. Seems either option would work fine!

I will add this up in the "Common Tech Topics" thread in the tech section; it's not there yet...

Seems pretty common on the new ones at 400 - 500 miles.

I tried the WD-40 as suggested and it worked. Squeaking has stopped....for now.

WD 40 didn't affect mine, nor did taking everything apart, cleaning and then lubing everything. I just cuss at it now when it starts.

Maybe it will just wear in, kind of like mine did. Someone suggested removing the cable and using a graphite type lube on it, but I think it really comes from inside that speedo drive on the wheel more than the cable.

Could you (or someone else) take a picture of this and indicate where the WD-40 should go?

the noise is coming from the speedo drive. The seal gets folded under when they put the front wheel on .Just remove the speedo drive and put some grease in the seal then reinstall without folding the seal under .

Mine went away on its own for a few thousand miles and now its back at 10,600. Guess I'll pull the wheel grease the axle, pull the speedo cable and put some grease.
