Pants/Trousers:
1 point for each pair of motorcycle jeans or cargo pants you own
2 points for each pair of mesh motorcycle pants/trousers
3 points for each pair of textile motorcycle pants/trousers
4 points for each pair of leather motorcycle pants/trousers

Jackets:
1 point for each protective vest you own
2 points for each mesh motorcycle jacket you own
3 points for each textile motorcycle jacket
4 points for each leather motorcycle jacket

Gloves:
1 point each pair of shorty mesh, textile or fingerless motorcycle gloves you own
2 points for each pair of other shorty or 3/4 leather gloves
3 points for each pair of full gauntlet leather gloves costing less than $200
4 points for each pair of full gauntlet leather gloves costing more than $200

Helmets:
1 point for each helmet that is not full face.
2 points for each flip-up style helmet.
3 points for each full face helmet that cost less than $300
4 points for each full face helmet that cost more than $300

Full Protective Suits:
1 point for each rain suit you own.
3 points for each textile full suit.
4 points for each leather full suit.

Misc. Gear Bonuses:
1 point for each reflective or cooling vest.
1 point for each pair of knee/shin guards or padded underwear (like Bohn).
1 point if you have more than 2 helmet shields.
2 points for each strap on chest/back protector.
2 points if you've upgraded your armor in your motorcycle pants/jackets.

Brand Whore Bonus Points:
1 point special bonus, in addition to points you claimed above, for each item you own made by Motoport, Klim, Aerostich, Dianese, REV'IT, Held, Spidi, Arai, Shoei or Schuberth

Ratings:

0 to 9 points: You are a Squid. Good luck surviving, you are going to need it.
10 to 14 points: You are a Solid Beginner. Keep looking to upgrade your kit, and be sure to wear ATGATT.
14-25 points: You are Prepared. Congratulations for taking gear seriously.
25-39 points: You are a Connoisseur. Your fine palate for protective gear will serve you well, but your bank account may be in trouble.
40 points or over: You are a Gear Whore - get some priorities. See you on the next episode of "Hoarders."

47 if I don't take into account any of my dirt gear. 66 if I take into account just the dirt gear that still fits into those categories. It figures that I would be the one kind of whore that costs ME oodles of money.

...... Well.... at least Alpinestars and Sidi weren't included in the brand whore section. But really, it's not my fault leather feels so good and Dainese and Shoei make such insanely sexy products ^^;

43 (+4 probably, I'd count Alpinestars, Sidi & Shark (RSI Carbon race spec €500 helmet) in the bonus brand points)

There is nothing holding you back from earning money in any way you see fit.

No no, nothing label queen-ish about alpinestars and sidis. And I'm not just saying this because I own three different pairs of alpinestars leather gauntlet gloves, both a pair of alpinestars and sidi boots, and am not mentally prepared to admit to being a level 52 gear whore.

Hmmmm, touche. Then I could totally afford those Sidi Vortices and that beautiful Dainese Jacket that I've been eyeing recently. And well, at least it's clear that I use protection?

79, and that's without going through my glove drawer. Do Sidi boots count for the "Brand Whore Bonus Points"?

74 points. That's only counting the stuff that fits me now, not the 11 points worth of stuff that I plan on giving away next weekend. I don't own dirt gear.

What about cooling vests? I suggest different points for evaporative cooling vests and phase-change cooling vests.

3 comments:

1. Good point on cooling vests. You now have 86 points. And I'm up to 41.
2. Gear you own but don't wear totally counts. You have 86 points until you give stuff away.
3. Holy schnyckies, that is a crazy amount of gear. I am morbidly curious to see a listing of how you got to 86. As a cautionary tale for the children if nothing else. You know, like Scared Straight might keep kids out of jail.

There is a side benefit of this thread, though. When my wife complains about my next purchase, I can say, "Honey, at least I'm not as bad as Ken Johnson."

52 here since I just cleaned out my closet and got rid of some extra stuff.

I also counted my custom made Teiz suit and my custom made Helimot leathers under the Brand Whore bonuses since I figure any custom piece of gear is worth an extra couple of points.

About to total mine up....

But I'd also add two more items in the "miscellaneous" category, at pretty high point values. An airbag-equipped jacket or vest, and a Leatt or similar neck brace.

EDIT: alright, my best estimate is 56 points right now.
