I believe there was already a thread about this, but I can't seem to find it. I use my chain cleaner. That stuff is powerfull enough to remove anything without harming your paint. Worked like a charm on mine

i dont know if you are being sarcastic or not, but alex is correct, sandpaper will get it off if i wet sand the area. i have a buffer to do this, but i only want to do that as a last resort.

I was being a little sarcastic.....and your right use that option as a last resort, as it will take a lot more work to get it all back nice and shiny.....
I would look at a chemical solution first, but make sure it will not eat away at paint brake cleaner might do it, or WD40 even might get rid of the goo Any chemical you might want to try, first try it in a hidden spot, just in case.............bottom side of the tank possibly....first |

WD40 would work, I've used it to get off the gunk left from heavy duty 3M adhesive. It was on a non-painted car part though so not sure how it would affect the paint. I've heard that olive oil or vegetable oil might work as well.
I use Bounce/dryer sheets to remove stuck on bug guts and tree sap and they basically slide off the paint with no ill effects. Perhaps give this a try on the adhesive. Put one or two sheets in a spray bottle and soak that area. Wipe it off with a cloth. Once you're finished, wash that area and wax. Alternatively, you can wet the sheet like a sponge and dab the area and wipe. Acetone is also used as a paint thinner. A small amount may not immediately damage the paint but is probably enough to start eating away at the clear coat. Last futzed with by Boom King; October 21st, 2011 at 06:36 PM. |

Just be careful if you go this route. The main active chemical in these pads is Melamine foam, an abrasive cleaner. It is safe for hard surfaces like floor tile, sink basins, and glass shower doors but it may make the clear coat on paint look "cloudy" or dull. For instance, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser mop is not recommended for finished wood floors.
