BMW is recalling the 2011-2012 K1600GT and K1600GTL in Canada because of a risk of the engine stalling. At the moment, a recall has only been confirmed for Canada, though we expect a similar recall to come for the U.S. market from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to Transport Canada, the engine throttle valve control software may cause the engine to stall, resulting in a loss of power and increasing the risk of a crash.

BMW dealers will update the software of recalled units to prevent this problem. The recall affects 283 motorcycles in Canada. The recall only affects 2011 and 2012 models; 2013 models are not included. We will provide an update if/when NHTSA announces a recall for the U.S.
