Hey everyone,

I just got my MSF license Sunday 9/18/2016 and my bike that following Friday. I'm excited and nervous at the same time to start riding. I do have a couple of questions that I'm getting different answers to. Sorry in advance if I'm such a noob.

Can I shift multiple gears while holding the clutch (not releasing in between) the whole time or would it be better to release the clutch after every gear? Also my other question is that while down shifting multiple gears, can I hold down my break lever the entire time?

Thank you.

Welcome Miriam!

Gratz and welcome to the riding world! While you can upshift and downshift through multiple gears while holding in the clutch, but since you're new to riding. I recommend working through each gear individually. Not only for the practice, but there are very good reasons to stay in a gear that matches your speed of travel.

Best of luck and enjoy being new, it's one of the best times in your journey.

Not disagreeing with Chris' advice.

Mechanically, there's nothing wrong with shifting multiple gears while holding in the clutch, like if you accelerate briskly in 1st and 2nd to pull out into traffic and find that now that you're going a 35 mph, you'd like to be in 4th or 5th gear.

Yes, while downshifting and slowing down, it's normal to hold the brake(s) on at the same time.

Chris and Jim gave you good advice.

Just want to Welcome a local Ninjette!

My daughter has had her license just over a year (and recently moved to a bigger bike), and I have a friend who's wife just got her license a months ago (and is now riding my daughters Ninjette)
