how tighten mirrors? keep blowing back

Hi guys,
A new problem has developed with my bike. When i was living at my parents house i always folded in my mirrors to park in the garage. Now when i ride my right side mirror blows back towards me out of place. Both top and bottom under the arm pivot is covered, how would i get these off? And how could i tighten the ball joint pivots?

The covers for the arm joints are just foam, so you could get 'em off easy with a knife edge. Not damaging them is considerably more difficult, but can be done if you're careful.

As for the ball joints, I've no idea. Last ball joints I messed with on a vehicle, I glued in place after several failed attempts at a tight circumferential rope wrap to wedge in there.

U don't need to use a knife or anything sharp. It will tear the foam disk. U have a 2009 bike like mine, if you just pinch the edge of the foam disk with your fingers you can pull it up slowly and it will release. I got it started with a small flat edge screwdriver. Do not do it fast or it will tear. I took mine off to put in the mirror extenders in December, came off without a hitch or damage. Also sticky enuff to put back in when I was done... As for the blowing back, I've never had a problem before or after putting in the extenders.... just tightened every connection point as much as a could and it was all fine.

Hah, thanks for the correction Addy. Wish I would've tried that method when I did my mirror extenders before the 'sharp object' method. Ah well, at least they provided plastic caps...

Had the same problem, my left mirror would blow back at speed. I did what Paul did, I just shoved a pair of scissors in the foam and yanked the damn thing out. Luckily it was ripped that bad, so I just stuck it back in there. Make sure you don't tighten it too much so that you can't adjust your mirrors.

I wonder if gumming it up with rubber cement could help.

Loosen the bolt under the foam cap on the mirrors arm, and put some blue thread locker on the bolt and tighten it to spec. My mirror kept blowing back, and it got worst and worse, i did they, its been 200 miles and still tight.
