MSF Course

Hey guys, so on this forum I've seen ALOT of talk about a MSF course, and i haven't taken it, yet im pretty sure it would be a good idea. I consider myself a decent rider, however i dont think ive been in any situations yet, except one, where i didnt need much knowledge of riding i guess you could say?

Anyways, i know it will lower my insurance a few bucks(ill love that) but, ill also learn alot.

So, how, where, what do you do to take it i guess is what im asking. May be a dumb question.

Thanks in advance

contact your local DMV and ask about driving schools in the area that teach the course. I did mine at Central Mass Safety, but of course you live somewhere else. Since you already know how to ride might want to consider taking the ERC instead of the basic course. You may find the BRC to be too slow paced, although you will undoubtedly learn a lot of things you didn't know already.

aren't you still in high school? It's required of anyone under 18 here. Are you still on your temps or do you have an M class endorsement already?

Got my motorcycle endorsement at 18 and the only requirements here were an existing license, and a bike with insurance for the riding test. (Which was just going out one entrance to the parking lot and coming back in the other.) haha gotta love Louisiana

MSF class is great idea and I agree, it needs to be a requirement! If a car needs to have driver's training, then a Motorcycle needs to have this class... You learn a ton and get to feel more comfortable on a bike... Everyone that takes it always highly recommends it!

After riding a couple of months, I took the MSF course. I learned a LOT, even though I had miles under my wheels already. Some things I had learned literally saved my BUTT the first time I rode in the mountains! Take it! WORTH EVERY MINUTE AND EVERY PENNY!

I didnt have to take it since i was 24 but I still took it because I was new. New riders should REALLY take this...

Chris,

Check this link out:

http://nm.msf-usa.org/msf/ridercourses.aspx?state=GA

There, you may find some that are near and convenient to you.

The basic course (mandatory in Florida for your endorsement) takes two days.

The instructors are supposed to follow the MSF book; how well each school does it is hard to tell (the school that I attended could have been much better and useful).

You must pass two final tests: written and practical.

Shop around, call several schools and ask for details like days of the week, re-scheduling for bad weather, if they provide helmet, snack (some do, some don't), etc.

Sometimes they have cancellations that they are willing to fill up for a discounted price (it happened to me).

One can never learn too much, go for it!
Best

In NY, the only reason to take it is to get your license before 18...

at least in NY they require a helmet. In Ohio, as long as you have at least a year of experience, and you're 18, you don't need a helmet.

Every time my grandpa comes to visit us, he goes on and on in amazement about all the riders he sees without helmets

I meant if you didn't care about safety. It sucks that it's $275. People who get it for free don't know how lucky they are. Don't Canadians pay over $1000?

After a simple Google search, it looks like there is a Harley dealership in Newnan, GA offering the course. I'm pretty sure that they're just as qualified as a regular course (Am I right @Alex?).

The cost:

I went to HD's site, and searched for MSF courses threw your zip code.

It looks like it's $325 (List of course dates: Link).

Now, let's see other non HD MSF courses.

So, here's one in Carrollton, approximately 23 miles away, a 40 minute drive.

Can't find the cost lol

Here's a link to all MSF courses offered in GA.

It's $25 in Ohio. Free for people under 18 since it's required. Move here.
